THE HARE AND THE SWIFT HOUND

Recommended Posts

Darcy did used to contribute to the site in its early days, as did a lot of other sensible posters who put up good topics and pics. Sadly most of them have either left the site or decided posting about their current hunting activities is too risky. If you have a look in the photography section he does still contribute with excellent wildlife pics and always willing to help people, I think theres a bit of the green eyed monster going on here?

the same way as i did by getting out there and doing it for yourself not dreaming about it while reading books and i was "there" but with my own dogs and doing my own thing i can remember when i br

Johnny, feck this, my book is on standby........... :whistling:

In this catagory, it would be hard to make it your main job, unless your JK Rowling and hit luck! I'm not saying you wouldn't make a tidy little number because you would. FACT!

I think because Darcy's books were pushed out all pretty quick, people will start to question the author. Maybe one was good enough, then at a very later date publish another, then STOP.

I have a few of Darcy's books, well all apart from the terrier ones. I can honestly say that I can relate to a lot of the content in his books.

Darcy's books are not for everyone, and how his books were put together, poaching, on permission, coursing from a helicopter............ it's not my business.

Marketing research and planning is very important.

Hey, you've done it, made a name for yourself, why not enjoy it!

;)

Green eyed monster...........far from it mate I applaud the man for making money from his hobby.I'm not saying he should post any pics and risk any repercussions  I think Darcy with his status from his books could post any number of his experiences without pics and they'd still have the same aura about them

IMO this site needs an injection of something to alleviate this confrontational element on here and I think people like Darcy and Lloydy and there ilk hold the key to that.

Just my thoughts thats all..........Happy New Year to you all and happy safe hunting to you all in 2011

When you earn a small living from being an author, it dont make a lot of sense to give your written word away for free.

Better to save your content for your products, no one else is expected to give their "product" away for nothing.

Just a thought.

Completely agree with you there  It would be really good to see it return to the way it used to be when there was much more hunting talk and less arguing and bickering. Happy new year and happy hunting to all :toast:

The problem regarding posting on this site is not only every arsehole with an account and opinion waiting in the wings to have a go. Also police, anti, rspca waiting for hunters on this site with baited breath to put a foot outside the law.

spot on mate... there were so many more people who posted... I did a post on a xmas day morning mooch, and adventurely 9 or 10th post in, started to get dogged. Even dogging the land i had pictured!! I walk all sorts of land and really couldnt give to bells if it looks rough... This is how this place has gone, it is quite ridiculous to think that you cant even describe a morning hunting... I was even asked, "why havent you photographed the catch"!

Dosen't the same apply to his publications? All it takes is a few words like heres a tale from pre-ban......it would be pretty diifacult to make any kind of case would it not.

You cant click on a picture in a book though to find out if it was actually taken when the author says it was, but you can on forums.

Very true mate.........but good writers don't need pictures to describe a days hunting.A well written post will take you to that course or stalk or whatever the subject is,a picture is great for people who need to use them though I think Darcy is talented enough to not need them.

With you or against you on what exactly.........granted its gone off topic a bit.And no I'm not looking for a ruck far from it just thinking out loud maybe and if I've upset anybody then I apologise  I'd just like to see some of the authors on this site contribute a bit in a literary sense.Theres probably loads of members with some great tales to tell but are not able to convey that story the way the likes of darcy and Lloydy can.

very good points made by johnny and stewie in this thread and fair play to them for saying as they think. i cant comment on this book as ive not read it and have no intentions on reading it coursing is not my thing but im half way through the nick stevens book and it is a very good book so far so in no way am i calling the man for writing books an there is no green eyed monster here i can assure you because being jd also means every anti in the country will know who you are and about your business so hes welcome to that one thing i might add thats a bit bitchy does he still have a day job reason being how does he find the time to actualy hunt????? atb
