Poacher Paul 11
There 12 week old kitts FFS what do you expect, Dont try them again till next season, Edited December 28, 2010 by Poacher Paul 1 Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,867
As TerrierJohn said just keep trying them as they are young, when they come out don't grab them straight away (as it will lead them to skulking in the mouth every time you go near) but let them have a sniff about and if they get on a fresh scent they will hunt it down the hole Quote Link to post
Davidh 5
Just be patient. Try and work them with an experienced worker. They will then pick up what they are supposed too do. Quote Link to post
Aaron_butcher 17
leave them at home for another 5 months Quote Link to post
tote 854
There 12 week old kitts FFS what do you expect, Dont try them again till next season, Agreed they are young, but what are they going to learn being kept in a hutch or court untill next season. Personally I would start mine about 5 months and not expect too much too soon. To start with they might just be going in and out of the buries but through time they'll learn to work them more thoroughly, something they won't learn being cooped up. Quote Link to post
leeroy 29
Way to young It would be like taking a 12 week old lurcher pup out lamping and expect it to catch. Late kits will not be ready to start untill next season. 1 Quote Link to post

Each to there own, I always leave my late kitts till the season after, Just plenty of handleing and plenty of fleash and a decent run to keep fit but thats just my way, 1 Quote Link to post

It would be alot to expect them to work seriously. Could you be underestimating their age?. Just keep handling the little chaps .Be gentle when you pop em down the holes and very calm and gentle when they come out so they don't get all nervous or playfull about emerging back into the daylight . It is well worth remembering that not all holes actually contain rabbits so don't be too disheartened if your freds fail to score every time . Good luck . Quote Link to post
DEE 0
thanks for all the comments , i said to my mate i think there still abit to young but hes had ferrets along time n said they would be up to it so i wasnt sure ?? wb DEE Quote Link to post
pitmanuk 2
way to young mate. you run the risk of spoiling them. let them be playful kits for a while. atb Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
Too young mate. If one gets a good kicking from a rabbit at that age it'll likely never want to go to ground again. I start mine off on easy warrens at 6 months. I don't give them anything too difficult the entire first season. Second season is where I work their guts out and they are more than up to it. The one 8,467
I would stick to using your mates ferrets for now as been said if they get a kick off a rabbit at three months it might put them off for live. ,You really got to think when your having late kits they wont be up to much till there six monthish and that might mean you got to hold them over for a season . Get a rabbit cut it open then drag it for the ferrets to see and smell it no danger to them see 6 months for them work them light Quote Link to post
