Greyhound vs lurcher

A woman near me who is very knowledgable about greyhounds and apparently has some very good racing and coursing dog's was telling me a couple of weeks ago that given fair law a properly brought up and enterd greyhound would be better than the vast majority of working lurchers on hares pre-ban.

 

she didnt say anything about purpose bred hare dogs,so i wont include them.

 

although apparently she's called quite a few coursing lads out for a fair bit of money when they've said her dogs couldn't last on a good hare,and theyve all bottled it (but then she is quite scary).

 

what do you think?

car,nt see that mate ,as they got no stamina and burn out quick a do,nt think they could handle a good hard nite ,hav,ent got the right feet,skin 2 thing ,injury prone

i think they will do the job, racing greyhounds are exercised and fed diffrent, but if you was running on live game you would treat them diffrent.

thats what i was thinking but to be fair im assuming she'll be very good at conditioning them,suppose theres only 1 way to find out though.

did she say how manny? if its just one run on one hare on nice ground then why not? if they havent got the stamina for a hard night it might not be whats shes talking about.

i had an ex racing grey and she was brilliant if they straight lined but she couldnt turn for shite. as for stamina that wasnt the best either but to be fair to the old girl she was spot on for charlie.

the best greyhound i have ever seen killed 3 out of 3 hares with big slips up on the wolds near bridlington, hard stoney fields aswell, up there,

ive used a couple of greyhounds lamping and coursing preban. neither asted long before being retired due to injury. however they both would do a bit in the lamp. they laced stamina and three or four rabbits was their limit one good run on a hare and they needed carried home. would kill a fox with ease. what i would say is on a single run a grehound will be first to its quarry and if it has a good strike its game over. this is many many years ago

most greyhounds are finished racing by 3 years old and very few run more than 60 or 70 races in there lifetime and then retire through injury this is on a flat sand surface .i raced greyhounds and they are bred for pure speed but are very injury prone ,ive also hunted greyhound pups on rabbits they are more than capable but just too fast for there own good.cant see what the lady has got to prove thats why greyhounds race and lurchers hunt .

I have an old greyhound bitch,retired now,that i ran for a good few years.

She was too fast for her own good and would never give up,i always thought she would die running.

She was murder for running on and her recall was poor,she had a deep hatred of foxes but led with her face. I grew up in a greyhound racing kennel and have seen a good few run over the years but greyhounds and lurchers are totally different beasts,each to their own,thats why lurchers are developed with different traits in them.
