halamrose 24
I think it's worth talking to you local Firearms dept. You will need your own FAC but that will enable you to borrow his guns. If I remember right you can borrow them for a short while (48 Hrs?) but I can't find information about that on my FAC. Alternatively the same rifle can be on both your certificates. An area to think about is if you are going to get a gun safe of your own. You could only share access to his if all the firearms are on both certificates - unless perhaps there are trigger locks on any that you don't both have on your certificate. Depending on where you live it's unlikely you will be given slots for all the guns at once - unless you can establish a legitimate need for each one individually. Talking to the Firearms Officer together seems like a sensible way forward. Good luck Halam Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
You can NOT borrow a rifle for anyamount of time ! You can have your own FAC with your mates rifles listed and use them on your own according to FAC conditions applied. Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
I have my .22lr on my FAC and it is shared on my mates FAC also. Hope this helps. ps So you can share rifles but that doesn't mean you can have access to his cabinet unless everything in that cabinet is shared ie you can take the shared rifle home and put it in your cabinet and vice versa but if for example he has a .308 in his cabinet that you don't share then you can't have a key to his cabinet. halamrose 24
My mistake , it's shotguns that can be borrowed by other certificate holders. :icon_redface: Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
Yes Stav, that's the only way you would be able to use the rifles on your own, or take them away to use elsewhere. As CW says, you could only have access to the cabinet if all the weapons contained are on both certificates. The only way around this is if any weapons which you do not have access to are additionally secured within the gunsafe, maybe with a steel cable locked through the trigger guard and secured to the cabinet, or some other means that the FEO finds suitable. I know of married couples who have this arrangement, guess it depends on your local constabulary as to whether it would be acceptable to them. As for having the same weapon on more than one FAC, no problem with that, as long as you can show the usual good reason to hold. Quote Link to post
stav#69 0
thanks guy's, right my next question. will it be easier to get a fac with shared rifles or does it not make any difference.i will be applying for fac just for my mates farm who owns the rifles.17hmr and 225/50 will be what i apply for.(land passed upto a 308) but just thinking for if i get anymore shooting rights anywhere else in the future.cheers stav Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
I think it would be easier to satisfy them of genuine reason to hold if you applied for your own rifles to be honest. Applying for shared suggests that you will only use them with your friend around, in which case you don't really need an FAC. Unless you can prove that you will have good reason to use them away from him I'd say an application to share the weapons is unlikely to succeed. Of course it all depends on the force that you come under, and how sensible they are. Is there a specific reason why you need and FAC? Also is there a specific reason why you want to share? If you live somewhere where a cabinet is not an option for example (but then would your mate let you have your own cabinet at his place?) or is it down to the cost of the weapons? For the .17, you should have no problems. For the 22-250 (I assume that's what you mean, you need to make sure you know the exact calibre you're applying for!) it might be a bit tougher unless you can prove experience with the round. They may well want to slap you with a mentoring condition if you can't prove a reasonable level of experience (they might even try to if you CAN prove experience, the little scamps!) but I would resist this as much as possible. So, before you consider the application, be absolutely clear why you have good reason to have the FAC, when the land you are using is your mates, and you will only have access to the cabinet when he's there anyway. You need to be able to answer those questions before the FEO will even consider your application! Good luck! Quote Link to post
