The one 8,457
Get a bit of pipe and play with that and your ferret in the garden let her come right out pick her up and stroke her put her down again ,pick her up give her a sip of milk etc and start again ,Just basic stuff which if done with a kit would have stopped this and all the stupid posts Quote Link to post

jarv5116 57
Just let the ferret come out on its own. be patient and dont dive on it and try grab it because it will just make it even worse. I find alot of polecat coloured ferrets are jumpy at entrance of holes dont know why. maybe just me. Iv always found albions or white ferrets to be more steady. dont know what anybody else thinks? tote 854
hi runforyourlife i knw my english writing is not verry good , but i'm from belgium so it is not a lack of schooling . to all the other people , thanks for the tips i do use a rabbit to get her out , but was wondering if there was a way to get her used to come out and take her up ? Runforyourlife wasn't having a go at you mate he was having a pop at whin. Regarding the Jill, try to ignore her when she shows at the mouth of the bury and hopefully she will come out of her own free will as it sounds like she's got used to bolting back underground whenever you approach her. darbo 4,774
what i do same as the one in the garden. but take the youngster when ferreting when i have finished for the day. i go to a small 2 three holer and let the youngster go in and out i dont net up.when it exists dont rush to pick it up make my way over then gently pick it up.when it enters and exists from another hole let it wander out a couple of yards before picking it up.when it is doing this confidently i will put some nets on. when it comes to the net just lift to one side let it wander a distance before gently picking up. only takes 10 mins at the end when you have finished ferreting. just to give it a bit of experience while it is too young to work.hopefully it wont skulk when worked proper because its gone through a bit of confidence training and its not been grabbed or snatched. it works for me but only my opinion. runforyourlife 361
it isnt very often that so much bad advice gets offered in the ferreting section......ultimatly the best way to stop a ferret skulking is to understand them and the way they work..,you can never handle a ferret enough but this may not be the only reason for a ferret to not completley exit the hole...when picking a ferret up dont rush, let the ferret approach your hand and when you do get hold dont simply whip the ferret up into the air, pick it up gently....the ferret obviously wont come out because its either afraid or it may not have finished working..if i were you id simply give it more time, ensure your picking it up properly and get the ferret used to being picked up as part of your daily handling routine...oh,ignore the 12 bore/snare on a stick...its neither helpull or sensible advice....atb Well said heritage.... but listen it was only "whin" he has been at it for years, lol. He wont even answer you or anyone else, so dont worry to much. Atb. Russ Quote Link to post

A "good" working ferret will follow a bolter to the enterance, then if there is anything still in, it will turn sharp and carry on working the warren. When satisfied the job is done it will leave on its own accord.. However a young inexperienced ferret will mess, and go back in when there is nothing home. Its all about learning... I do however think that this problem should have been sorted at a young age.. very difficult to teach an old dog new tricks.... Can i ask, are these setts deep you are working, or shallow? is it working alone, how many holes? Quote Link to post
