thomas h 0
Hello, I am Rachelle and I came to visit Wales looking for lurchers in 1995. I also am living off the land here and really appreciate working dogs. I did bring back to Canada terriers and lurchers from ginger....[santa]... I wanted to take a trip. My husband had been talking through Earth Dogs Running Dogs with David Harcombe.Of course, David offered bull lurchers almost like gifts from the boys but Tom phoned ginger for the lurchers . Hubby being free minded and knowing how much I like this type of travels asked if I wanted to venture...so I went to Wales. I saw the country side riding "The Reading Railway" and met the nicest people. I knew that I was in the right place.I was greeted by this colourful character Ginger and his lovely wife Dinah. They had offered their home as a place to stay .. I was there for two weeks . Lenn brought me into his pack . there were many dogs of different crosses . great stock bred by other lurchermen and his own top dogs . I saw Luke and terminator and meggie .allthe terriers .. I was able to walk amunst his pack . LENN COULD CALL HIS LURCHERS BY NAME TO HAVE THEM SAFTLY KENNELED AT NIGHT .. «iF THE LURCHERS WERE NOT IN ORDER,AS NAMED THEY WOULD RELINE UP AND THEN THEY ENTERED THEIR COSy DEWELLING IN PROPER ORDER .. I`post this unfinished for now and add so more later as am feeling tired right now . HEALTH PROBLEMS .and I afraid to loose this beginning thread Rachelle At his farm, The pack, the rounding up of the dogs, coming up one by one..acquainting with the dogs, the air..the hills... thomas h 0
hi',, ty bunny and psm for the welcome and wishes.. MC to you all.. It was amazing the amount of knowlegde about dogs that he shared with me ...Ginger and I would sit amongst the dogs and talk about crosses and caring for working dogs.We would sit for hours every day with the dogs roaming free.Ginger showed me about the lurchermen ways ,and how to measure a lurcher for speed ,the proper body structure. Dinahs cooking was great . Home cooked traditional food every night. Dinah is a lovely lady. Her home is so quaint. A soft spoken woman, very appreciative of nature. She makes you feel at home. She has a keen eye for spotting red kites. She has a nack for making crafts.I have now lost contact with Dinah but we kept up a correspondance for a few years... The lurchers fascinated me. The bull in them you know...the brain, the want and the endurance. I had to bring one home...maybe more than one. Quote Link to post
