Rminton Subs

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just a quick question as i have been having a few problems with my .22lr at the mo. Im using winchester subs and they are not as good as i hoped (maybe its a bad batch) but im getting 1/2 inch groups to 2 inch groups, the bullet is just not consistent enough.

I have been looking around and wandering what the the remmis like? good, accurate. subsonic ?

The gun is a Sako Finnfire is that helps, also any other brand wpuld be appriciated.

Thanks, whippeter

Its a good round mate but not that good! you wont get a consistent grouping within the tolerance! also what distances are you trying?

Try the lapua, slightly more expensive but if your looking for tight groups then I think they might be better

Hi.

I've tried them all and Eley subs are the best for me (CZ varmint)

I find eley the best if shooting at paper targets, but they don't have the stopping power. Winchester are the hardest hitting but occasionally lack the acurraccy, lately have found them to have excess wax on them which cause jams even in the bolt actions. CCI's are quite good but very tight in the breech. Remingtons are fairly consistent both power and accurracy, but they are very hard and richochet very easily making them unsuitable for stoney ground.

Rimmies are like most rifles, some barrels like one bullet, whilst others on the same rifle, even from the same batch of barrels, will like another make. The only way I've found of finding a consistent round in your rifle is to try several, and find which one shoots best. All of the cartridges are capable of performing, in the right rifle, it's just pot luck if you have a barrel that likes cheap rounds or expensive ones. Buy a box of each, and try them out. It's not cheap, but it's the only way to be sure!

I know plenty of people that now only use target ammo for hunting. It's a bit more expensive, however it's far more consistent and kills clean. When you hunt you're not firing off hundreds of shots so an extra few £'s ins't that big a deal. Try some Eley Match and use the Winchester brand for plinking/target.

Hi I have a finnfire and I have found the best are rws subs, they shoot groups less than 1/2" at 50, sometimes 1/4" if I'm on form. Mine has a tight chamber and eleys were tough to cycle. Lapua subs were accurate, but have a very small hollow point and are not as good for body shots.

Winchester were on and off as you have found. Remingtons, I would not bother with to be honest.

Any .22 caliber bullet, hollow point or not, that is travelling at 1000fps will destroy a rabbits heart/lungs with ease.
