blackbird????

i put a live rat trap outside our chicken shed this morning with a bit of ham fat and some chicken feed.

 

went back an hour later to give the chickens some water and found that a blackbird has got trapped in it.

 

have anyone else found this happening over this cold spell? or is it just a rare one off?

happens all the time bud. had blackbirds robins tits wagtails thrashes.that's why you should check regally.

i've had maggies thrushes blackies but mostly maggies and thrushes

the thrushes seem to come into the trap more often when i put some soaked up dog meal

i have had the trap sent all the time for the last 2 years its just always inside the chicken shed. first time ive had it outside. nice to know i have more stresses ahead

 

might just keep it inside in future

just set them for bunnys mate, usually get them on the fence lines

Just be careful folks on the subject of non target species. The subject is raised by the anti's every year. Make sure you learn all about keeping non target species from entering your traps.

Since the hard weather started I've closed all my rat, squirrell and mink traps for that very reason. And it's a bummer because I have rat problem around my fowl.

try putting a lond wooden tunnel over your rat traps as this usually puts birds off round my way.

i do the same if they cant see the bait they wont usally go in ...
