wiganer 0
Hi All, Well - Just got back in the warm house after a few hours out with my lad and his ferret on our first go at ferreting. First thin - we didn't get any rabbits. We have permission on a local farmers land and once we found the warren we started to get some nets down. The warren was obviously occupied. My son was extremly anxious once ''Rocky'' had gone down the hole but i tried to reassure him using our new Mk3 locater. Rocky had a real good run around once he was in but we didn't bolt any rabbits. He popped out a couple of times but all in all after about 45 mins my lad wanted to keep him above ground until our next venture out. All in all (without a catch)we had a great couple of hours in the snow. I am sure that on our next trip Max will be a lot happier about leaving Rocky to go about his work for a longer period. We both enjoyed it and are happy with our first trip. I will let you all know when we get a rabbit for the pot!!!!! Chris, Max and Rocky. Edited December 24, 2010 by wiganer Quote Link to post
Guest crobinc840
Well at least you both got out there and got a feel for it. This snow seems to be keeping the rabbit underground much more. My last outting I was out for hours and only got one. My good ferret kept poping back in the holes because he knew they were in there. In the end I had to dangle the one that bolted infront of one of the holes to get the ferret to come out. I always get a bit nervous about my ferrets getting to cold and turning into ferretsicles. Steve S 0
I love reading about fathers taking their son(s) hunting. Unfortunately, when my sons were young I was going to school and working, so we didn't have much time to spend in the woods, and now they're much older and we all live in different parts of the world, so getting together is rare. Enjoy your time with them because it'll go by tooo fast. I went ferreting in Germany a few years ago, and loved it. I have been invited to go ferreting 30 DEC, and I can't wait! Quote Link to post
