Ferret missing

Recommended Posts

We went out yesterday with the ferrets and a goshawk. Ferreted a decent sized warren. First set of holes snow on the ground it become obvious that my ferret(had a locator on) was on a rabbit. As soon as i started to dig, it moved (due to the frozen ground i mate quite a bit of noise). A few minutes later, the other ferret which was also down the hole bolted the rabbit and chased it out the hole, and rather than having a sniff around like i have noticed they usually do, it ran straight back in the hole like it was spooked.

It never come back out. We thought maybe it was on another rabbit, so we carried on with the two other ferrets, with the idea that we would come back at the end to dig it out if my ferret located it.

When we got back after catching a few for a stew, we put all the ferrets down the hole to see if that prompted anything, mine with the locater come out as if nothing interesting was in the set(we expected it to maybe stay around a 1/2 dead/ dead rabbit). But no....

Anyway i said that i have had this before and when i go back the next day, they seem to pop up like nothings happened and pleased to hear you whistling.

Not this time, i went back this morning alone with my dog and there was no sign, the dog even seemed to mark the holes as if there was rabbits down there?

We really dont know whats happened, we thought maybe its dead (took a kick to the head and thats why it went a bit loopy the last time we seen it)...

Has anybody else had this sort of problem? Any suggestings?

Never left one behind yet , even if it requires a 6 foot dig

. What am i supposed to do dig up the whole of the warren?

No mate, put a collar on it before you put it in...simples

Only got one collar and it was a decent sized warren so we put two down. i cant afford ferret collars (student with no job)....its unfortunate that the ferret is gone, i would rather take it out with no collar than leave it stuck in a hutch, just wanted to know what could of happened to it.
