hey guys im from Australia and having a look through the threads and notice a lot of your dog have some sort of stock dog in them that you very rarely see in aus and if you do they are accidental mating not purpose bread. i was wondering what this bring to your dogs that a well bread whippit or a whip deer grey wouldn't have.

Neither mate. I brought her over and mated her to a friends very nice greyhound.

 

Mothballs, there could be a litter about to be bred out of the sister to my Jasper dog to a Smithfield. Warrigal would be the best man to speak to on that subject. This bitch was the pick of the litter and I would have kept her but I was after a dog.

Quite simply it,s different styles of hunting. Dogs in the UK hunt alot closer to their handler and have alot of short sharp runs and tend to hunt more by sight. Dogs in Australia hunt further away from their handler and have more longer runs and cover more ground and tend to hunt by scent.

I totally agree Brother Fox (dont fall of your chair. lol) Mothballs if you are after a dog with brains and have the chance to pick up a pup with airdale blood you wont do better and will also have all the balls required as well. Im all for trying somthing a bit different but but if learcher were the best dogs for over here than the old timers would not have developed long dogs to the degree they have.

Mothballs if you are after a dog with brains and have the chance to pick up a pup with airdale blood you wont do better and will also have all the balls required as well. Steve, just curious .....why suggest the lad gets a lurcher (airedale cross) and then follow up with your last statement saying that lurchers aren't necessarily the best fit for Australia? Did you mean collie lurchers specifically?

Stabs the guy mentioned he had a chance of a airdale blooded stag and I was just stating that airdale blooded dogs are as smart as any I have had the privledge to hunt with wasnt picking on anyones type I like most if not all types o hunting dogs. It is true though that longdogs have made there name in Australia IE staghound /kangaroodog and collie xs have been tried but were not as successful, But that might have as much to do with the game being hunted as the type of country they were being hunted in. (horses for courses)
