Hi ct.

The very best spring air rifles are made by Weihrauch and Diana from Germany and Air Arms from the UK. With £250 you can go hunt for a real secondhand bargain from one of these makers. The very best rifles for hunting to go for are;

WEIHRAUCH HW95K, HW95KT. HW80, HW80K, HW77, HW77K. (The K denotes a shorter carbine version).

DIANA. They tend to be rare on the secondhand market but, the Mod. 46 underlever is a beauty. So is the sidelever Mod. 52. The 54 AIRKING is a recoiless rifle and is superb.

OR

AIR ARMS PROSPORT, TX200, TX200HC.

You might even get a top scope and a gunbag in the deal!

Don't bother with Gamo mate. Bottom of the pile tat. Triggers are terrible and stiff, quality of build and finish is naff. And they have those Godaweful cheap tatty Tru-Glo sights that aren't worth tuppence. They are really only good for plinking tin cans in your back garden. A lot of people buy them not knowing what they've actually bought... until they try to shoot with precision accuracy at a rabbit's head kill-zone at long range. There are sound reasons other than mere money, why there are quality air rifles with sweetly adjustable triggers that cost a lot more. Don't wast a hundred quid or more on a Gamo before you then, have to sell it and hope to get the spring rifle you should have bought in the first place.

Top advice Simon!

You cant go wrong with a second hand Weihrauch HW 77, 95, 90, 80, 97 etc or for that budget a Air Arms TX200.

For your budget you can pick up most of the above rifles and you will have yourself a precision springer that will last a lifetime if maintained!

There's an old saying that applies here, buy cheap, buy twice.

Honestly, mate, you'd be far better off in the long run buying one of the guns mentioned above used. If someone's buying you a rifle as a pressie, show them this thread and if they've any questions, they can ask on here with pleasure.

Cheers. :thumbs:

try some of each mate and see which you prefer, generally underlevers are heavier than break barrels cos theres more to 'em.

and to add to the previous advice- dont buy cheapy gamo's and the like, spend wisely and buy a weirauch or an air arms, theyre just so much better mate and really will last you a lifetimes shooting if properly looked after.

all the best, wurz
