first go with a u caller

Recommended Posts

hi all

the day began feeding the pheasants sorting 6 more feeders out ,re locating them etc etc ,

on our travels found the footings in the snow like the m1,so me and a mate went off out at 7 tonight to see whats about (not knowing where they are coming from or where they are going )

get set up about 50 yrds from the m1 and set the caller 60 yrds into the field and us two one looking one way one the other,

started on the rabbit squeal for 10 mins then switched to the hare (hares coming in like no tomorrow, should of shot one in hindsight)

all been quiet on the fox front a tried the vixen call and within 5 mins this bloody fox ran in front of us as though it was its last leg over this season ,it raced that much that it got to the caller and thought eh what then ran like the wind to the cliffs

ive never seen a fox run so fast to a call

so how the hell do you stop them and how do you know which call worked as i could of brought this in on the squeal from 100's of meters away and changing calls prob got me thinking is was the vixen call

very inexperienced in this and would like some comments on stopping the buggers

a long boring read sorry but a was quite impressed with the calls

i bet some hares get murdered when using that call

i would of have to be fast laid up in a hedge thinking nothings coming then bang its there ,good buzz though ,

i think it'll be like waiting for a bite when your fishing ,you know the there but just when will it show

thanks for your help

when you shout i guess its a quick free hand shot (no time to get the rifle on the sticks )

thanks again

i was thinking of staking a freshly shot rabbit or hare to a peg so it may well approach it with caution with its hunting skills ,i did this 2 yrs ago with dead pheasants and watch a fox work its way up to the bird but it was very slow ie hunting the bait and if i had a rifle then then i could of had a shot off

cheers everyone

experience is a must for this game

hi i've found the best way to stop a fox running either towards you or away is a short sharp bark "allso works to give you a chance of a shot when the fox keeps moving in the lamp" all the best hope this helps and have a good crimbo
