Guest crobinc840
I know there are one man dogs but I was wondering if anyone has a one man ferret? My hob is a bit of a wild thing and the only one he responds to is me. He has gone out of his way to bite other people but is a great worker and hasn't bitten me. Does anyone else have a ferret that is like that? Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
I would say that because he has never bitten you and so you are confident in handling him then he sences this and behaves him self were as if other people know he can be a bit of a bugger at times they will have a different attitude towards him and again he will sence the fear and try his luck. Is he a young hob as they often act like tis when they are young.A bit like most kids I suppose, they know who they can push their luck with and who they cant. ATB 1 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Mine are pretty happy with any one who handles them well but they definatly know me apart from others and will head to me if they surface. Quote Link to post

ATB He went out of his way to get to my son and my son-in-law was just a bit silly to let the ferret walk around by his face. I think the ferret is just a bit of a bugger when it comes to other people. I tried to have him out in with us as much as possible but now the kids can't be around him. I had him from a kit and now he's a big brute of a ferret. Funny thing is he's running around and playing with the pup as I write and they are great together. Quote Link to post

The one 8,529
Sounds like no enough handling or socializing when it was a kit Quote Link to post

Coneytrappr 30
Best wee jill I ever had...absolute terror would nail anyone who tried to handle her. Except with me she was completely soft and could trust 100% to not bite. Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
yes i had a hob once that would bite any hand that went near it apart from mind best worker i ever had he was stolen in the end so im pretty sure he had a bad ending as he hated everyone but me ,and ive got one jill at the moment that will kill any other living creature up put near it 3 times i have tryed to put another ferret in with it killed the first one so i left it a while tryed it again an managed to split the other 2 up before she killed em but shes like a baby with me ,strange Quote Link to post
Guest crobinc840
Funny all the talk about people having them as house pets, I did try it with mine. They were out constantly and well potty trainned but they just knew my 8 year old was nervous about them and would go out of their way to make him jump. I'm sure to them it was a game. My hob bit my 3 year old once when he was crying high pitched and after that they were not allowed out with the kids. My son-in-law held the hob and let him walk around by his face and no sooner did I say that's a bad idea the hob latched onto his nose. I had to put my finger into the hobs mouth to open it. It was funny but a good reminder that ferrets will never be considered pets in my house. Quote Link to post
