lksopener 105
The ground here is frozen solid. Cant even break the top with a spade! Anyhow, anyone got an ingenious way to get the pegs in? I thought about using a hammer or rubber mallet, however I thought it may alert the rabbits to my presence? Then they may be reluctant to bolt. Any ideas chaps or will they bolt regardless? Liam Quote Link to post
dh90 6
It is not exactly kosher,..but, try pushing your purse net pegs, into the top of the burrow,..on the inside.... The net will still purse,.but, you want to be onto them asap,.just in case.. Agree, Definately softer inside the hole, probably your best bet Quote Link to post

stroller 341
if the grass is long and clompy try threading the peg through the clump and around the base and through the string, same near hedges and dry stone walls or put stones or logs on top of pegs or just dive on the nets asap or have a catch dog the net slows them down a second or two long enough for even a terrier to be on them. you can only do what you can do Quote Link to post
Aaron_butcher 17
I got some plastic ones off ebay, really thin they are but strong as f**k. £4 for twenty. They look really flimsy but now I use them on all my nets. They go in any ground fairly easy because of how thin they are. Quote Link to post

Neal 1,873
Or save your back and leave the nets at home...and let the dog have some fun. Quote Link to post
jedandlevo 8
my friend works in a metal fab place and simly drilled a hole in a peice ov 20 mm flat bar and just welded a halfed tent peg in the hole so its a T shape and easy to force through the frozen ground and easy to pull out when yer fingers are freezing Quote Link to post
peeps_76 17
never tried this with nets but it works real well with the snares. i was taught it by my grans brother many years ago. he called it brick or stone snaring. it was used on very hard and frozen ground and rather than use a peg we just used bricks or heavy stones! the bricks with the holes in them are the easiest as you just tie on through the hole or otherwise secure the snare/net to a heavy stone. we have also used old lumps of steel/heavy branches etc anything that a bunny cant pull away! always remember (if snaring) foxy can pull a fair weight (much more than bunny)! there was a thread in the trapping section with pictures not to long ago! regards P Quote Link to post
