We complain here about sentences not being a deterent, Well it has stopped him from smuggling drugs for eighteen years and possibly a few years to come, seems to me their system is working, we should try it over here.

This is just my personal opinion , regurdless of what type of drug it was, he was in a country that will not tolarate drug smugling and he would of known this but still went a head with it,he was caught so has been punished their way. would he still be smuggling now if he had not of been caught ? yeah he would be! they all regret and are full of remorse when they are caught but still do it knowing full well what the punishments are.

I also dont think they should be bringing his disablity into this for sympathy, he might be disabled in body but his mind is not and he knew right from wrong but made his choice and now has to live with it , just like every one else who is caught doing things they are not ment to be doing .

my mates relative got caught doing the same ,the media etc made a bigdeal of it to harsh a sentence /shes a pensioner etc long story short she got home served her sentence here if you could call it that, ive spent a longer time having a shite .onceshe got out the bragging started .

You said you had nothing against people selling 'them'. So it's only dealers selling weed you don't mind? If they sell class A then you would mind?

Obviously everything has its levels, some are acceptable some are not....ive no problem with 2 fellas sorting a problem out with a few right handers....but if they stab or shoot each other thats unacceptable !...the same as puff and class a are opposite extremes.

Too much emphasis these days is placed on the poor " victims " of drugs....if people took responsibilty for their own actions and stopped all this " i had a bad upbringing so now im a junkie " nonsense then there would be no place for hard drugs........as long as people are not forced to do something against there will then no i dont have any real problem as the weak will always be exploited.....

Death penalty - life imprisonment - foreign cess pit prisons - these are the deterrents. Yet people still think they can get away with it.

As has been said if you cannot do the time dont do the crime. These fellas dont get my sympathy.

I'd much rather do my very best to educate my own children and show them these people in prison as bad examples.

Riohog thats Malaysia and Singapore not Thailand.

The bloke was stupid, he wronged but id say he's done more than enough time and in a stinking shit hole for the crime of hashish.

If it were Heroin id say he needs to do at least another 12 as Heroin not only ruins the lives of the idiots who take it but more often than not their families and their victims who they steal off to fund their addiction.

ok i hear what you say .. they were examples . i couldnt find the notic about drugs posted in bangkok airport ..

never the less . he is doing bird , and if he wasnt aware of the penalty,s he sure is now !!

a deterant for others though eh !

Thailand Executes Drug Traffickers

Not much to add. They execute, and neither will drugs nor addicts disappear. Or does the embattled Thai government try to show some sort of determination? For once the law is followed.

Fact is: Two Thai drug traffickers on death row received lethal injections on the evening of August 24th, at Bangkok’s Bang Kwang high security prison.

Richard Barrow over at Thai Blogs has an excellent write-up, mirrored further below. Thai media are covering the execution low key. It will be graphically all over the front pages. But nobody wants to stir even more domestic conflicts. We see, for once, a unified front. Thailand’s Last Executioner wasn’t the last after all.

By Richard Barrow, Thai Blogs

Two drug traffickers on death row at Bang Kwang Prison were executed by lethal injections this evening in Thailand. They were Bundit Charoenwanich, 45, and Jirawat Phumpruek, 52. Both were arrested on March 29, 2001 for having 114,219 methamphetamine tablets in their possession. Convicted of drug trafficking, they were given the capital punishment. Although the death sentence is often commuted to life imprisonment, the Director of the Department of Corrections received a directive from the Prime Ministers office for this sentence to be carried out.

According to Thai newspapers, the execution happened this evening at 5.30 p.m. at Bang Kwang Prison. No-one knew it was going to happen as it was kept a secret from everyone. Lockdown was at 3 p.m. as normal. Then the two prisoners were taken out of their cells on Death Row to be prepared for the execution. This preparation took one hour. They were allowed one call to relatives but they were only given one minute to talk. One of the prisoners rang his home but there was no answer. His mother had just been to visit him that afternoon and probably hadn’t reached home. The prisoner then asked for a favour to call her mobile phone which was granted. Finally he was able to get through to her to let her know that he was about to be executed. The other prisoner spoke briefly to his wife and young son.

The prisoners were also instructed to write a will. The records of the prisoners were brought to the prison from the police station. Their fingerprints were then checked to make sure they had the right prisoner. The execution order from the Prime Minister’s office was then read out to them. They were then given flowers and incense sticks and given an opportunity to say a prayer. They faced towards Wat Bang Praek which is next door and where the cremation will take place. There is a small death door in the wall here. Before the execution, they were offered a last meal. This was a curry and fried asparagus. They were also given an apple and a packet of cigarettes. Obviously they weren’t very hungry. They were then led into the execution chamber where they were given a final blessing and sermon by a monk.

The governor of Nonthaburi and other government officials attended the execution together with reporters. The relatives weren’t present but they will go the prison in the morning to take part in religious rites for the prisoners. The last execution by machine gun was carried out on 11th December 2002. This was then changed to lethal injection. The first and last time this was carried out was 12th December 2003 when four prisoners were executed. This is now the second occasion that lethal injection was used. According to the Department of Corrections, a prisoner is injected with three kinds of drugs consisting of sodium thiopental, pancuronium bromide and potassium chloride. The first drug is a barbiturate which makes the prisoner unconscious. The second one is a muscle relaxant which can paralyze the entire muscle and stop breathing. The last one stops the heart and causes cardiac arrest.

This is a sad day for Thailand. I am sorry but I don’t believe in the death penalty and I certainly don’t believe in the lethal injection

Hark at you lot! I bet each and every one of you enjoy a drink now and again.. What's the difference apart from one being legal and one not being? Typical THL bandwagoners. If you're so quick to lump all drugs together then you should also criticise people for having a drink, otherwise you'd all be hypocrites...

(Bandwagoners).Got it in one Malt.I would think like most teen,s growing up we all had a puff at one time.I know i did.Surely knowone can say they dont have one friend that take,s a blow.Unless thet grew up in a bubble.18 year,s .The man,s paid his due.

Don't think anyone is arguing he hasn't paid his due.

Fact is he committed the wrong crime in the wrong place.

I for one hate how everyone thinks they are 'owed' something because they are British. Your nationality means feck all when you find yourself doing shit like this.

Does anyone care about all the foreigners who are serving ludicrous sentences for minor crimes. No.

I say don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

And I aint on the bandwagon, I was one of the first to state my opinion on this thread.

The human rights act has a lot to answer for.
