thorne43 1
when i lived abroad (portugal) a local farmer breed some pups and gave me one. was a lovely dog but a complete mainiac! he would kill anything he saw move and tough as old boots. the farmer said they were straight cross doberman greyhound. he looked great though, had the colour of the doberman and the head of the doberman but a body of a greyhound. he was a real munching machine! great guard dog aswell. my question is has anyone heard or had or even seen one? any info would be great cheers thorne43 Quote Link to post
ReggieCuz 18
This is a doberman crossed with a rednose pitbull, brilliant guard dog, good pig dog and smart as a tack. I think dobermans are very underused as breeding parts. They have an excellent physique and good brains, not to mention a good dobie has a lot of game in it. If I was to start a new breed of pigdog I'd defo use good dobie blood. Here's mine. Quote Link to post
thorne43 1
hes lovely mate. i didnt mean to have one but he was a really good dog. he was clever aswell he was allways escaping and killing the farmers goats sheep and turkeys. which cost me a fortune to pay the farmer off. lol. i think he might have been breed for wild boar maybe, he was quite light though. cheers for the reply. Gaz_1989 9,539
My folks have got a Doberman bitch from a rescue. She Is mental! The best guard dog I have seen. Prey drive through the roof. She is athletic build and I'm certain she would be fast enough for bunnys. Only last week she turned the out house upside down to get to a mouse nest. Her nose is great. Only problem with her is she was mistreated and it took her weeks to trust us and it takes about 2 weeks to accept someone new into the house. Visitors are not welcome. Same goes for anything else that moves, be it at home or out on a walk. I'm certain that this blood could only benefit the lurcher world, however she is spayed and I believe there are alot of shit dobes out there. Like the other dobe my folks own...built like a fat rotty, lazy, over friendly, no nose, no prey drive, no guarding instinct. Gaz. Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
Like german shepherds, good ones are few and far between these days. Quote Link to post
Richie10 345
Don't you think after all these years that if a doberman was any use it would have been used already? There are always exceptions but never seen them run that fast, better for pigs I guess and not for rabbits. Quote Link to post
comanche 3,061
There was a litter about some 25-30 years ago . I think Ted Walsh mentioned them in an article . They don't seem to have caught on which might say something about the cross. I can't help thinking that they might be a bit "hair trigger". Quote Link to post
