GOVERMENT CUTTING THE FUNDING FOR SPORTS IN SCHOOLS

well the budget was 160 million a year ,now its down 60 but its spread out over 3 years ,so realy its 20 ,lots of p,e teachers out of jobs a plenty of other jobs gone .when i was at school over 14 years ago sports was unlimited ,from infants all the way up 2 seniors schools,i,ve got 3 young kids and they are 2 miss on all this ,and i for 1 think its a disgrace.as i was sporty kid growing up it kept me out of alot of trouble growing up and was in 2 every sport going but that a side i think sport made a good develompent in our children ,this is only my opion but i think it is more important then languges such ,french,german,spanish,and religes education,if any think was 2 be cut out of the budget these should go first.whats your thoughts i think i,ve gone on about it long enough now ,what do yous think,its our kids getting hit with this

I think it should not be a compulsary subject ..simple as...my daughter hated it with a passion ..nows she's off to uni next year to do a history degree,,what did sports give her ..fook all . Religous education and languages are only compulsary up until their options year so then they can be dropped for other subjects. Don't know why you want those subjects dropping in favour of sports ..how would you feel if one of your children had a penchant for languages and had to do sport instead. i know how i'd feel if it was mine. RE these days isn't about religion like it was when i was at school its more of cultural explanation and understanding

Children need all the exercise they can get. A huge number of them now exist in a society that feeds them processed crap, and teaches them to be bone idle. They think playing consists of wafting a Wii remote at a tv screen, and getting together with mates is a conference chat on MSN.

 

I think the modern paranoia about paedo's and murderers, which is gleefully fed by the media, helps propogate a culture in which we are too scared to let our children out of our sight, and it too contributes to unfit kids. Mine is probably the last generation in which parents would send their child out to play for the day with his or her mates, with a bottle of pop and a butty.

 

Cutting back on PE doesn't surprise me though, given the number of schools that have already sold off their sports fields to developers. It seems as though exercise is the poor relation in the curriculum.

I think the government should cut funding for everything. Police, hospitals, schools and everything else. They should then see how much money they actually have to spend each year and then work out what they can afford and which services are the most important.

 

Sorry but I would love to have sky+HD, golf course membership, gym membership etc but I have to choose which I can afford. The Government needs to do the same and only spend what they have and either cut most things or raise taxes.

Savings cannot be made from thin air, everyone knew cuts were on the horizon after the election. Something has to give somewhere along the line, seems people want savings but without actually losing anything, its not going to happen, it cant....

 

Take it from me who was only at school 4 years ago...the sporty types who are intested in football/keeping fit etc are out at lunch time playing football and sports... they dont need it in lesson time. The little fat feckers who need the exersize never do enough in PE to make it worth while, it really is a waste of time. I always fell under the latter catagory

 

In an ideal world it would stay how it is but its not ideal were in billions of debt and somethings got to go and personally i'd rather that be rounders and cricket than maths and english!

played school rugby for 4 years until i suffered from early onset dwarfism and they wanted me to play hooker :kiss: and not in a good way

Not all kids are academically gifted , and if they have a gift for a sport it should be encouraged at school .My son attends a comprehensive school in a city and it is football orientated , but despite this he is a county rugby player and has to fight for his place against privately educated lads who play rugby 3-5 days per week , the sons of the people who decide to make these cuts no doubt attend these type of schools so will be unaffected by cuts . I voted this lot in but it seems to me they are putting the boot into the folks who hoped they would help out .

I'm all for sending billions abroad and helping people less fortunate. However I am only all for it if we have those billions going spare and not borrowed from the Chinese to begin with.

A while back when I attended school, I was in the basket ball team. played left wing in the football team, and a tripple jumper.

 

I hated running, and cross country was a big NO NO! Infact one year on the way to school we hid a small bottle of brandy and 10 benson & Hedges in the local tennis courts on the same route of the course. Came back half cut and got suspended for a week and put on report! Lesson learn't?

 

There were a small minority that took sports seriously, and it did feck all to get me a job. Same as religion, RE was forced upon us, no if's or but's!

Where i grew up sports in school was taken very seriously whether it was football in winter or athletics in summer....we had 2 great sports masters both of who pushed us as hard as possible while keeping a strict sense of discipline and hard work.....the same as most other schools in our area......i dont think its any coincidence that over the years id say more succesful sportsman have come out of this area than virtually anywhere else in the uk.

Its a crying shame how its gone now,sport encourages great qualities in the young,you dont need to be athletically gifted

or have a future in it.....it will still give many values for later life......certainly more than studying French or German !....as for Religious Education....if we educated our kids more about our own religion and a bit less about others it might leave some space for sport and sticking to our own countries traditions,sport being one of them.
