b53hunt 15 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Share Posted December 20, 2010 hi im new to this and i was hoping that someone may be able to help me with a few questions i have i have 3 jackrussels and i have just started working on a farm that has one hell of a problem and my new boss has asked if my dogs would be able to sort the problem out. any my question are about my dogs i have two males which are 18months old but they have been castrated i was wondering if that will effect there ability to rat? i also have a bitch who is 6 months old and is from working stock when would be a good time to introduce her to the world of ratting? the last question i have is how would be the best way to get them started with out putting them off by throwing them in the deep end? thanks for reading and any advice would be great thankyou. The one 8,479 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Share Posted December 20, 2010 Hello and welcome mate ,try your question in the terrier section ,but that wont stop your males from working ,id let your bitch see some action but hold her back till maybe a year old then whats there reaction if your going round the farm picking up stuff thats lieing about if a rat bolted think they would kill it ?. TonyHunterSBT 5 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Share Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Hi Mate, where abouts in yorkshire you from, im in the barnsley area do a spot of ratting if need be for the local farmers, find a smoker and a good handfull of terriers coupled with men and spades a good combination, have worked castrated dogs in past and have got one now that enjoys a spot and does well for a staffy.
