FERRETBOY 680
Well once back from work on friday two mates turned up at my door seeing wheather i fancied doing something that evening as town wasnt on the cards due to my maste losing his ID a week previous .After a little negotiating it was decided to go rabbiting and maybe possibley camp till morning depending on if the night went well.Anyways it wasnt long before we had our our things packed into my rabbit carrying rucksack ,tent, flask of tea ,even 12 bottles of stella all fitted nicely..perfect..A quick check to see if my air rifle was shooting straight and it was apparent that it had run out of power ,well not enough to kill a fly nevermind a rabbit. What about the dog my mate quickly asked but she too has still got a nasty cut on her toe ,, only other option was the longnets ,actually one 50 yarder .But my mates were still determined to give it a go, though i wasnt as enthusiastic because my mates havent been out hunting more than three times and well tend to be a little loud at times and are like little excited kids when they see a rabbit lol. What did i have to lose i thought and decided to go ahead with the mad idea ... A taxi later and we were closer to our destination .. it must have looked like a blast from the past for the taxi driver as we went as far as wearing flat caps , and after a long time hiking we were about to go over the otherside of the hedge and off the public path .A quick talk later waiting for midnight to strike and a quick check of the wind (which wasnt blowing in our favour) we crawled through the hedge bottom. With my mates sticking putt against the hedge and waiting my return i went along pushing my first pole of my quickset into the ground ,5yrds later the second one followed untill i had all the net out infront of feeding rabbits.A quick re-group i had my mates doing what i had asked and soon we were all making our way back towards the nets.when we reached the nets my two mates jumped on a rabbit each leaving me to check the rest of the net with only one more needing dispatching, and i quickly chinned both of the other rabbits my mates had clamped into the ground. Well the night had only just began and soon we had a fire blazing ,using the the fire light we had our tent pitched and had enough heat to cook the rabbits on a spit which to my surprise tasted beautifull .I let one of my mate 'steve' take control of this part as he was addiment to do so , i reckon he had been watching to much bear grills lol ..well what a top night had and my mates are determined to go again. good hunting rew Edited December 20, 2010 by REW Quote Link to post

longnetter 32
Good write up there REW Used to do a similar thing when I was a kid, when I was younger than you are now. Rabbit from a wood fire is something I haven't tasted for 40 years..... try wrapping one in cooking foil, cooks in it's own juices......tastes fantastic. Good ol' memories and like you say better than getting high or pissed ATB Quote Link to post
