what dog to dig with

As a fan of working terriers and seen plenty of digging over the past few years ,I am considering buying my first terrier and was looking for a bit of sensible advice from some people who know more than me ? i ahve been told about a variety of different breeds supposedly being the best type to use but the one that pops up more often than not is the patterdale terrier as apparently they will just start going to ground vertually on there own and start working at around eight/ nine month old which is supposed to make them easier to work with for the novice terrier man , as appose to the likes of other breeds such as borders which will not favour starting work before they hit around 2 years of age ..

 

Are the stories i hear true enough as i favour the looks of the paterdales but in the main i am after a good dog that wil appreciate the work it gets and obviously want to give myself the best chance of owning such an animal that will bring me on as much as i can it ?

if uv been diggin the past few years im very suprised only gettin ur own terrier now, plus if uv been diggin with ur mate have their terriers not made an impression on u that u cud say id like 1 of them.. Ive a kept a few different breeds of working terrier but my heart stopped on the patterdale, if got 1 from the right breedin i think theres no better but this is just MY preferance, others will certainly have theirs...

Never had enough space for extra dogs bud just finishin off a new set of kennels cos starting to put team together instead of just running one lurcher , patterdales do stand out more than any other and until my mates lucher shook his patterdale todeath in the kennel i havent seen a better dog than that one , going ground he had a beddy to but it was a lunatic !!

there is always some tit on this site that has to be smart arse , i am looking for good honest advice from good honest dog folk not snide remarks from sombody bored to death sittin in the house drumming there fingers on the table top! im willing to listen and learn not be mocked

i would try and find some good working line,s ,if you know the lads were your mate got his dog try there ,but to be honest people keep good lines tight to there chest and nomaly all pups are spoken for before the bitch is even lined . i personaly wouldnt get one from any were else the countrymans ,and other advertisers if the dogs were that good ie 110% then they wouldnt have to advertise them .

there,s some good lads on this site and maybe someone will help you out, but people dont just give pups to anyone they dont know .

ive had 2 pups go out to lads about 2 1/2 years ago and they have seen nothing this is what happens when you give pups to the wrong person

the other 3pups are doing fine and holding there own but time will tell oh and kennaling a lurcher and terrier together is a big no no as your mate has learned

Would there be any benefit in buying or dog or are bitches more sound , just that when it comes lurchers i have always found bitches to be easier to work with ?
