gnasher16 30,217
Robbed ? McCoy got 291,000 , Taylor got 72000 not even close was it ? McCoy should have won it years ago ,15 time champion jockey , up at crack of dawn , eating a bit of fish or chicken somedays , nothing else , jogging in a sauna with your clothes on to lose weight , cant compare it to throwing darts really can you ? Normally you speak a lot of sense zigzag dan,but on this occasion your way off......being a succesful sportsman is as much about raw talent and skill as it is hard work.....yes it takes a lot of dedication to reach the top in any sport, but getting up at the crack of dawn does not qualify a man as a great sportsman........to be a great sportsman and reach the top of your sport requires as much determination and dedication as it requires skill and talent......now while i dont claim to know much about the gee gees im not sure how much skill and talent is involved but i wont be ignorant and presume it requires none !...skill and talent being a gift you were born with not one you work hard to get, thats what puts the greats in sport at the highest level,a natural gift they was born with......taken to the peak through hard work and dedication.....one doesnt come without the other at that level. If you accept darts as being a sport then Phil Taylor most definately has been robbed, show me a British sportsman in any generation of living memory who has dominated his chosen sport on the world scale more than Phil Taylor ?....He practises hard,is very dedicated, and has bundles of talent......if you accept darts as a sport which understandably some folk dont.....then Taylor has been robbed of this award for the past 5 years at least ! farlap 19
1 things for sure beckham did deserve the life time award why? he was never even a particularly good footballer! Anyway the title is "personality" and he sure doesnt have any of that either. WHAT? HE SINLE HANDEDLY BOOKED ENGLANDS PLACE IN THE 2002 WORLD CUP YOU MUG!i personnaly dislike the chap because his disloyalty to UNTIED & FERGUSON,but i hVE to admit he is a Quility Fballer&anyone who disagrees dosnt know fBALL. Is your keyboard broken...?? The only reason Beckham was in there at all is the fact he's in the 'public' eye 'cos of him and his daft bint of made up pop star of a wife are always being thrown at us all by their marketing team. If he'd not married that tart, he'd have faded into obscurity by now.... exactly!

For somebody who " was never even a particularly good footballer ".....he represented his country more times than any other outfield player in English football history, played for 3 of the greatest clubs in world football Man Utd,Real Madrid,Milan............ Ive followed England games over the years Beckham has been by far the most popular player with fans over the years, and rightly so.....or maybe the worlds great managers and clubs didnt know what they was doing eh Edited December 20, 2010 by gnasher16

Leewx 2
Cav should have won it, great talent in one of the worlds toughest sports! Taylor is a douche bag, as someone said darts and sport shouldn't be in the same sentence!

Gnash ,ive no problem with Taylor winning it , as you say hes dominated his sport for years, but i think this was the year McCoy had to win it as he had finally won the one race that had eluded him , the Grand National .Weve all read how the great sportsmen even train on Christmas Day , Taylor will be at the board , Wilkinson , out kicking the ball , Beckham practising freekicks , but McCoy will ride work on the morning , have 3 slices of thin turkey , 1 potatoe , 3 sprouts , all day so he can ride at Kempton on Boxing Day , i agree , getting up at dawn doesnt constitute greatness but to dedicate yourself to exploiting your talent to that extent surely deserves some reward . On a personall note , my lads having to get up and do his roadwork at moment in this snow , as hes sparring every day except Xmas and Boxing Day , due to the National ABAs , first week of Jan ,thats why i take my hat off to anyone who shows dedication to their sport . Thats exactly my point....your lad is dedicating himself to his sport,i know all about the dedication it takes to prepare for a fight, make weight etc etc....i dont miss it one bit and i never competed at the highest level of my sport....so thats a dedication you have to make merely to compete....at any level.....you see my point ?....some of us would train and train and train with total dedication,if we didnt possess the natural talent and skill in the first place there is a point we can reach and go no further.......the true greats of sport have immense natural talent meaning that same dedication takes them way beyond the rest of us. As regards Taylor/McCoy....ive no problem with McCoy winning it.....i just think Taylor not winning it this year pretty much means he never will.....his talent/determination etc surely deserves some kind of recognition also....but its clear that Darts is looked down on as a sport which is a shame for Taylor....Is darts any less of a sport than snooker yet Steve Davis won the award in the ,s without achieving anywhere near what Phil Taylor has. Yes , i think if you dont win it in a certain year you can forget it , the racing industry has really got behind McCoy this year , Ladbrokes were even texting customers to tell them to vote for him . Wasted talent really pisses me off though , Ive some relations in Stoke who used to play in pub darts with Taylor and along time ago he found a lad who used to beat him regularly and he took him under his wing , Adey Lewis , but he decided he was too good to train , boozed heavily and has underachieved massively , as the saying goes "you only get out what you put in ". Likewise, wasted talent makes my blood boil....what some of us would have done for a touch more talent ! Lewis seems to have all the talent in the world but from what i see he just doesnt have the temperament, which in itself is not really wasted talent....i guess thats another quality it takes to reach the top that not everyone has. Lewis seems too easy to outwit when under pressure and Taylor is the master of the mind games without doubt. Its strange sometimes how such diverse sports can require almost the exact same qualities.....only different in how they show themself.
