its no wonder there is so many shite dogs in england not worth the price of the bullet that should finish them.your dog is 13 MONTHS and to make it worse is BARKING when he runs.get a grip lad.if your

i have a male whippet called snipe who is 13 month old, he has exeled all my expectations his first season and i dont doubt he will in the summer when it comes to ferreting. he dus have a yap when running but that is due to the previous owner entering him too early. his retrieve is coming on ( he will now play fetch with tennisball) so he is a good dog and is working well. i am wanting to stud him and am offering stud for free but should it take and a littter be born i would want a pup...... what do you all think of the idea and any advice or anything you wish to comment is welcome just try keep it serious ( i no what its like on here hahahah)

Are you waiting for summer ferreting because its to cold for you or the dog now,or os it because baby rabbits are easier for the dog to catch?.

no im waiting for thsummer because i dont have ferreting permission and a pal of mine does but he is only a fair weather hunter so im waiting to go with him atb

I think it's a pride thing, wanting a pup out of your own dog.

I am the same, my pup is only 14 weeks and I have already started thinking about what kind of bitch I want to put him over to get a pup out of.

But in reality it will be when he's had 3 seasons or so and has proved he's got something worth keeping hold of.

Gaz

hello gaz. as you no mate i have a litter sister to your pup and i thought about this the other day lol was thinking along the beddy/whippet line to take a little of the height out but this is just my preference for what i will be working. how is the training going mate? hope its getting there atb mart

If the pup is the one in your avatar it should turn out pretty good  Looks a mean thing. What quarry does it take?

For starters at 13 months my whippets are just entering to quarry secondly depending on what intentions for the pups and who's dog your covering 9 out of 10 people i know who stud dogs always cover a mates dog free and i mean FREE whether the bitch dont take or has ten pups the point in the mating is to prove the dog once he is proven as a stud you can stud him for price of a pup or stud fee. On the other hand you get the twats of the day studding dogs at as young as 8 months and i have heard of odd occasions younger for a pup personaly the twats need there own balls chopped of.

Now as a potential stud dog what is he putting into a prospective litter ? How is he bred is he kc registered were his parents upto scratch also if he is proven and your covering another whippet if there pedigree are the pups succesfull in what is expected from the next litter be is race show or work then finaly if its to produce lurchers first and foremost the dog should be a well seasoned dog with at least 3 proven hard seasons in cold wet weather taking the odd bump no bother and without consistant injury as alot of whippets will show plenty capability but get knocked up easy and regular and these type of whippets are not suitable and should not be used in the production of working pups.

I would get the dog out give him simple easy runs with the hope you will put him of the yapping then during the summer maybe rat with the dog even race or get him along to the game fairs but i sertainly never ferret summer rabbits unless a land owner realy needs rid as i have better things to do than catch tiny rabbits and dig all day to wrecked nests. In another 2 years start thinking down this line and if you need another dog put your hand in your pocket and buy one in that suits your needs.

Yes i agree whith most of the comments, the dog is far to young to even think of putting him to a bitch, work him for a few years first, then if he dose what you want him for, and dose it well, and you want to keep that line going then fair enough take a litter off him,but thats only half the story you then have to find a bitch with the same qualities, there no point in putting him with any bitch that comes along, you would be back to square one, you would be just as well going out and buying a pup from sombody who has a good line of dog.

I dont want to put a damper on your idea but any one with a decent kc whippet wouldnt touch an unreg stud dog of 13 months old that yaps the pups couldnt be given away .there,s loads of whippets with papers that are struggling for homes without breeding ones no one wants.

i wasnt asking for a kc whipet to breed him 2 mate you obv havnt read the thread..... and i have your views and can now act on that. he is working realy well and as previously stated his yap is not a problem and is getting less and less .atb.... why would yapping be a problem

yapping would be a big problem for me . my permission not that vast so need to be as quiet as possible so not to scare other rabbits away, i have a whippet bitch at 13 month and im happy with what shes done so far but as much as i think of her i wouldnt dream of breeding a litter from her as she still learning and developing physically and mentally and at 13 month i think any dog is only 'potential' so why would you ? jmo , atb with him tho
