COSH 14
they look impressive dogs, but could ye alaunt owners please tell me, what is it they are bred for? as I cant see them catching any wild game, unless (as pictured) they are diseased or young. i cant belive ye all hunt pigs. im thinking they could handle biting quarry if they had the minerals, but ive never seen one that looks like its done any hard work. are they just bred for show? im not here to upset people that own these dogs, no doubt il get shot down by the alaunt owners for asking these questions, but surely there is no job they could possibly be very good at? 2 Quote Link to post

Ive tried asking these questions before on a thread about Alaunts. I got no sense out of them. Perhaps 1 or 2 could pop their heads down into a stop end now and then, big deal, apart from that this country has not got the game to allow these dogs a true working life. Quote Link to post

ReggieCuz 18
I had a boxer/pitbull cross that, from what I've seen here, could pass as an alaunt. Yes he was a good pigging dog and yes, he could dispatch an Australian fox or a dibgo, but he didn't have the speed to knock a rabbit down unless he caught one out of its warren. There is no way it could have taken a fallow or red or sambar. For english game I can't see the point of having an alaunt type. But for pigs???? Hell yes. Quote Link to post
billy10 8
correct me if im wrong is an alunt a bull/grey/mastiff cross,i dont see y people use the mastiff,i think they would rather be better of useing american bulldog as they are alot fitter and american bulldogs are hog hunting dogs.makes more sence Quote Link to post
