coursing john 1
Things are going great with My first lurcher He is growing into a lovely dog. Looking forward to getting out and about with Him next year, have couple of permissions under My belt. I plan to do mainly mooching and some ferreting. While My lad is still young I am toying with the idea of getting a team mate. Looking for something to work the cover and flush it for lurcher. What do people use or suggest, and what does it add to Your team. Thorny flame thrower Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Does anyone on here work a spaniel x terrier? Ive heard them mentioned but got no info on them. Any pics? Do they work like spaniels but with more prey drive? Or like terriers but with more nose and easier to train? Also are they less likely to go to ground than most terriers? Gaz Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,324
i use russels and plummers. ive worked with a the working terrier breeds and given chance they will all drop bellow. even the plummers BIGEARS. thats a crackin lookin beddy. whats the benefit of the cross beagle/cocker. terrier. over say a good cocker or springer?? my whippet lurcher works cover but not a patch on a good terrier Quote Link to post

thorny 100
So what do You get with a spaniel x Terrier, that You dont get with a pure bred span or terrier, as said before would be nice to see a few examples. Thorny Quote Link to post
stormrider8 59
Russels are good as are most terriers. Always the chance theyll go to ground though.. Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,737
MY 2, 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and my jrt, the jrt is coming on well this season she marks well, works all cover well, is good with the ferrets and is non stop all day long first out and last in every time. The down sides are she can work to far on and she's really headstong, if she's on a scent obediance goes out of the window, she's caught a couple of rabbits whilst ferreting and is far from soft mouthed ( they dont go to the butchers only good for the ferrets) .We were out first thing this morning and the 2 are beginning to show good signs the jrt bolted a couple of rabbits the first the young lurcher didn't see ( she was the wrong side of the hedge ) the second was a good bolt which the lurcher was straight onto the rabbit just making the hedge. they're both young dogs jrt around 19mnths and the lurcher 61/2 mnths still learning we're out again first thing tommorow so see how it goes. Good luck with your future dog Quote Link to post

Good luck with your future dog Nice to see You have the makings of a cracking little team. That is what I am after. My lurcher is only young at 5 1/2 months himself so I am no rush at the moment, but I am on the look out for the right dog so they work along side one another over the coming years. I know it will be harder work having two young dogs, but surely they will bond better and learn from each other, as Yours are begining to do Thorny Quote Link to post
