josh! 0
blando poster this about our little trip out the other week went we lost my ferret! "Was out ferreting the other day, we netted up in a burrow next to an old fallen down tree root, we put 4 ferrets down al collard up as it was quite a big berry. We had 4 in the nets, lost 2 from un netted holes that the dog missed. Then put 2 ferrets back in the box as nothing else seemed to be happening. One of the other 2 laid up so we dug to it and got it back with a rabbit. But the other ferret the small jill could not be located anywhere we were there for hours looking for her looked al around the surrounding area even went to the burrow the bolters had ran too to see if she mite have rode a rabbit. I don’t understand what mite have happened the only thing I can think of is she went to deep and got stuck or got into a wet bit that knackered the collar. We keped putting the other ferrets down to see if they could find it but no luck just another dig. Anyone had this happen to them?" any way me and my mate where lamping localy so we thught that we would go and cheak the berry that we lost her in! when we got there at about half 12 a bunny bolted right infront of us out of the berry, which was a bit wierd lol! but any way i thought i would bring my locator along just incase for some wierd reasont that the batterys might still be alive! i flicked it on and the box was ticking away much to my complete shock! so as i was crawing arund under a fallen tree trying to pinpoint it! i looked up and the little jill came strolling out almost as if to say! "what touck you so long lol" but she had no collar on! so we dug the collar out! so when we lost her she must have gone off down a hedge or another berry or summit! and then cam back and waited for me lol oh and conviently sliped the collare of int the same berry that we lost her in , so you could say luck was on my side lol Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Reeeesulltt! Though I'd actually suggest that jill had more than likely have been working the surrounding area all along? Still must have been a once in a life time experiance to arrive just in time to see rabbits popping like corks before her though! Priceless! 'Mind you ~ if I may ~ this whole story underlines the very point I've so often tryed to get through here; The rabbits were Bolting because they felt secure in doing so. They felt secure because no one was trudging about above them, fixedly staring at a knocker box, minutes after the ferret arrived amongst them. She likely managed to slip away in the first place because you people, these days, are so reliant on those damn Bleepers! In my time no one I ever knew could afford such things. We never used them. And escaping ferrets were virtually unheard of. I mentioned my one and only experiance of accompanying a friend who used one, else where on here, a few days ago. That said, great ye got her back. Maybe ye'll gain something from the experiance? And I'd still Love to have seen those f*cking bolters! Truly priceless! What an experiance! Incidentally; How well fed does she appear? Guest Ditch_Shitter
' She was pretty fat '. Thanks for that, Josh. D'ye know what? This whole little story has sparked off in me a question which I'd simply never thought to consider before! Now I'm completely intrigued! I'll give it some more thought - and eat my dinner - then I'll try to figure out where best to pose what this has all inspired in me. We'll see what comes of it all. Thanks! Quote Link to post

tote 856
About 7 years ago after a really wild night my mate Billy,on going to feed his 2 jill ferrets was met by an empty hutch, the wind having blown the lid up during the night. We looked for them both during the day and at night without any joy. As Billy lives next to a busy main road we feared the worst. At least 2 months later Billy arrived home from work early having been rained off,not having the house keys he was forced to sit in the land rover as the rain pelted down. Billy thought he saw a movement through the rain covered windscreen, after clearing the window he could see one of the jill ferrets come walking along the side of the house,it was in first class condition. The other jill appeared at a local quarry 2 weeks later, the quarry being over a mile from Billys house again she was in good order. Quote Link to post
kurgan 5
First ferret i lost was because the kids opened the hutch ,had the RSPCA knocking on my door with a sturn look on his face asking if i had lost a ferret, he had it in his hand ,on seeing the ferret licking his lips with blood all over it i said no but would take it off his hands as i have a few of my own ,he came in was happy with my other ferrets and there accomadation ,got talking and found out it had killed 2 yorkshire terriers 2 streets across dont know if they were the tiny ones or puppys he didnt say .It was a hell of a lump of an albino but didnt think it could kill a dog.
