bunnys 1,228 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Share Posted December 20, 2010 PROOF IN THE PUDDING CERTAINLY ,but running a pack of hound 3,4 times a week winter time need flesh to get the best from them . flesh stays on a dog ,they get all they need from the fats supplied from flesh carcass flesh fats bone the lot ,are by far the best form of diets a working type dog needs carb modern diets ,are fine for convenience ,i suppose20 30 miles covered per day depending on whay type of pack and type of land they cover in winter conditions flesh diets rain supreme.all the best bunnys Quote Link to post Share on other sites

It should be diet to fit need and one size does not fit all, if I owned a working sledge dog I would feed it a high protein and fat diet with very little in the way of carbs, no more than 10%, as fat is the basic fuel for steady long duration work, but as I own sight hound types I feed carbs as these provide the basic fuel for sprint type activities. bunnys 1,228 Posted December 25, 2010 Report Share Posted December 25, 2010 i have a long time friend who his a proffessional grey trainer ,keeping up to 130 hounds these dogs by sheer volume are fed complete diets .the meals he uses are gain 28 high protein austrolian fomula 30 protein when resting gain 20 plus all the other breakfast cereals ,these dogs perform week in week out on protein diets not carb based diets these dogs alone would suffer physically on low based protein diets unless being rested . ps and yes they hit top speeds , head banger .
