Ideation 8,216
My 2 girl ferrets are lovely and always find a rabbit down a hole. But i have to dig them out everytime! Its really doing my head in. They both get hold of rabbits and rip em to pieces. Sometimes spending 2 hours digging them out. And its not nice making a mess of my permission. Anyone got any tips? We use a MK3 finder. But we only have one collor Cheers There is something not right about this. Girl ferrets? Rip them to pieces? You feed them dog food? Quote Link to post
stroller 341
be quiet, be patient, stand off the bury and use one ferret at a time. i make sure mine are fed the day before they usually get a rabbit every other day or whatever pheasant, hare, pigeon, have been shot or chickens culled, we occasionally feed cat biscuits but very occasionally. good luck Quote Link to post

metallica fish 0
What do you mean? Call them girls cos i never knew the correct term. Feed them dog food cos thats what the older guys i go out with use. And yes by the time we have gotten the ferret and the rabbit out the ferret has torn chunks out of the rabbits face. ozzieowl 53
maybe making to much noise around the warren which is not going to help, dont know just saying but i always let it settle after netting up usualy walk away for a fag and a coffee before entering the ferrets, also locaters can be a pain in the wrong hands as iv seen lads stomping over the warren within 10 minutes of entering the ferret trying to locate it, give the ferrets plenty time to work the warren before rushing in and worrying where it is.patience is a key fact i reckon i agree too much noise keeps them in ferrets dont kill in everytime, its got to be the noise Quote Link to post
metallica fish 0
Will make sure we are super quiet next time. I will update next time im out. Cheers Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Could be all the above reasons to many ferrets in a wee burrow ,to noisy setting the nets ,the wind blowing your scent ,noise right down the holes .But some days the rabbits just dont bolt and you have to dig them out but at least your accounting for the rabbit and its in the bag Quote Link to post

John-B 4
As for feeding them my mate never feeds them for 2 days before we go he reckons they are willing to work harder, You should be having words with your mate then cos that's bordering on the grounds of animal cruelty, ferrets like to eat little and often due to their short digestive tract, so 2 days for a ferret might be the equivalent of us going without food for 4 days and I know that if I hadn't had anything to eat for that period of time I wouldn't be willing to work too hard. kevin from bristol 95
Don't feed tinned cat food, it's no good for them. I personally wouldn't give dog food either. I give mine minced chicken and ferret biscuits, other bits and pieces when I have them. Enter the ferrets on at a time, don't always put in 2 ferrets, only if the rabbits aren't bolting and make sure they aren't hungry and not over fed. yea enter just one at a time ,and give them enough time to work ,also feed them up just before you go so they dont turn everything they see into food Quote Link to post
