lurcher/picking up dog

anybody ever had a lurcher that was used for feretting/marking etc. but could also be used as a pegdog, picking up wounded birds etc. ? if so what cross was the dog ? cheers plum!

i use my for abit of rough shooting now and again pigeons and pheasants as well as feretting lamping etc he is a 3/4grey x collie to a lurcherx whippet grey post-35431-0-36319400-1292444932_thumb.jpg

cheers for your replys people,very interesting ! i have always done more feretting than anything else, hense me having two beddy/whippets,but more recently i,v started feeding the birds on a small local diy shoot and beating on another local shoot so i, also getting the chance to do a bit of shooting myself. i,m only thinking ahead {as you do !} but just wondered if any one dog would be suitable, cheers plum!

a friend of mine has a lurcher x lurcher, (originally collie and deerhound based)which retrieves any shot game birds, as good as most decent picking up labs and spaniels

I would say it was as good as a bog standard lab not a decent 1.
