yes you do need a license and need to be 18 before you can hold a license for any firearm. you could possiablly get your dad to get an air rifle and shoot alongside him.

You dont need to be 18 to own a firearm, I dont know for sure about Air Rifles in NI, but you can have a shot gun under 18 on a surpervised permit I think its called.

Hello young lad, the law in Northern ireland states you must be 18 to apply for a F.A.C. to shoot on your own (the 1st 6 months you have to be supervised by someone aged 21 or over who has held a similar weapon for 3 years) then you can be on your own. At 16 you can apply for your own F.A.C. for a friend or family members air rifle/ shotgun on loan from them, but you must never be alone with it, you must be supervised at all times until you come 18. Im not sure that you can mate, you are not supposed to have any weapon in your hands until 16. Look up the Firearms Act Northern Ireland website and it will tell you everything.
