You dont need to be 18 to own a firearm, I dont know for sure about Air Rifles in NI, but you can have a shot gun under 18 on a surpervised permit I think its called. Terryorr 27 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Share Posted December 18, 2010 Hello young lad, the law in Northern ireland states you must be 18 to apply for a F.A.C. to shoot on your own (the 1st 6 months you have to be supervised by someone aged 21 or over who has held a similar weapon for 3 years) then you can be on your own. At 16 you can apply for your own F.A.C. for a friend or family members air rifle/ shotgun on loan from them, but you must never be alone with it, you must be supervised at all times until you come 18.
