pianoman 3,587
Cheers Andy mate. I know, but I really REALLY had my heart set on the HW77. And with the rise in inflation and VAT shooting everything up, I had to act fast. I'm still seriously going wring out that HW90 of yours when we get shooting together in the new year though buddy! I must admit I'm at a loss to understand why more shooters don't have Diana rifles in their collections. I thought the 46 model Stutzen and the 54 Airking are magnificent looking rifles. If you still have that 52 of yours, bring it along too. Cheers mate Simon Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Cracking rifle Simon , im sure it`ll serve you well , you lucky boy And as for this ............. I use Tony a lot, and his work on springers is AS GOOD AS the best out there when it comes to tuning. (Got to put is AS GOOD AS because some people on here get upset and send me nasty PM’s and quote other tuners names etc). Well you all aught to be ashamed of yourselves . I happend to personally know Tony Wall and he IS DEFINATLY one of THE BEST SPRINGER TUNERS IN THE COUNTRY .If you disagree or wanna say anything over PM , go ahead , but be warned , i will bite ya ......... Simon Si , no bother with em Buster Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Well said Buster mate and thanks buddy. I was on the phone to Tony Wall at Sandwell Field Sports this afternoon. He's going to tune my HW77 after he gave me a rundown of what he does to a spring rifle in tuning it. Amazing job. I'm handing him my pair of HW80s, my HW95K and TX200 pair after Christmas too. ATB Simon Edited December 16, 2010 by pianoman Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I'll still have the 52 then, Simon. After we chatted on the phone the other night I got thinking and that's a rare thing, these days...!! I always regretted selling my first one years ago and it took me ages to find the one I have now. It's only money and things are picking up, so it's NOT FOR SALE anymore!! I think the reason a lot of folks don't go for Diana's is the fact that they do cost more than HW and most folks can't justify the extra cash. Fair enough. Also the fixed barrel guns do weigh a fair bit but I like that, most of my shots are taken standing and I'm a fairly big bloke and I find the extra weight helps keep my ageing frame steady. Cheers, mate. Edit to say.... My UK built, gas-ramed, Simmons 8 Point 1.5-5x32 wearing Lightning's still up for grabs....?? Edited December 16, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
i'd be interested in your thoughts on the '90 fellas, i had a theoben evolution gas ram for a few months over the summer and really liked the feel of it, excepting the fact that it kept knocking scopes out of zero, which was the reason for flogging it on eventually. is the hw easier on the optics? cheers, wurz Quote Link to post

Theoben's gun's have a relatively small cylinder volume (except the FAC spec Eliminator) so their ram's run at a high pressure, 48ish bar. The 90 has the same large volume cylinder as the and the rams only need about 23 bar in UK spec, so the recoil is a LOT less sharp than Theoben's own guns. They both use a ram made by AWT and both can be adjusted if need be. After-market/retro-fit ones can't... Cheers. Edited December 16, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Wurz. I don't own one but I've shot with a .22 one and the handling is really nice. A bit like the HW95 you have but, a bit chunkier in the stock I remember. It certainly seemed like it has a nicer feel and firing manner than Theoben Gas ram rifles I've shot with. Certainly, if I was going gas ram in the future this is the rifle I would go for. I'm having Andy over on my permission in the spring or better weather and I must say I'm itching to have a shot with his .177cal. '90! ATB Simon Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
It's a .20!! Even better  Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
ah, a proper caliber! i had my R10 converted to .20 from .177 and the (still not got round to being fixed yet) rapids a .20. bloody great! didnt know weirauch did .20 although i did hear a rumour that the shrouded hw100 was gonna be coming out in it. that'd be my perfect pcp if it happens, minus the bloody shroud tho. cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Wurz. The HW77 and HW80 are available as .20 so, I guess it's a calibre that is available across the HW range. H&N Field & Target Trophy are brilliant in Weihrauch barrels and they're available as a .20 calibre pellet. Got to be worth a further look eh mate! ATB Simon Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
At the risk of sounding like a total train spotter but the .20 barrels that HW use are not their own. They're made by either Anchutz or Walther, can't remember which but it's one of the two... Cheers. Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
train spotter be damned andy, all info is good info mate. as long as youre not wearing a anorak... simon, a hw80 in .20 may just be the perfect break barrel you know, worth swapping the '95 for even... cheers lads, wurz Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
I tell you what Wurz mate. You have a point there with the HW80 in .20. I certainly do not think there is a break barrel to touch the good old -unless it's another by Weihrauch! As for Andy's note about the .20 barrel by Anschutz or Walther (Lothar?) I'd have no complaints with those two makers! An HW80 or HW77 in .20 with just the right weight of pellet would be utterly delightful to shoot with ATB Simon Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
The 90's really nothing more than an that's been factory modded to use Theobens system. The main difference (except the ram!!) is the trigger mechanism. All of HW's normal triggers (Rekord) have the sear engaging on the rod that goes through middle the steel spring. The ram's have no center rod so the sear has to engage on the outside of the piston so they had to change the sear and safety mech. to allow for this. All the Elite trigger on the 90 is, is a Rekord that's been re enginered to make this possible. Apart from the sear engagement and the safety, they are basically the same unit. Cheers. Edit to say.... I'm not trying to push the 90.... Honest..... It really is the best gas-ram gun though... Edited December 19, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
