HI folks ive just bought my first ferret its a 13 week old albino jill the person i got ot off didnt tell me much about the upkeep of it except he fed it on buscuits but did,nt tell me what type!Could anyone help me and tell me a healthy diet for this jill?

Generally speaking, they're very sociable creatures and are happiest in a pair or group. If you're going to keep her as a solitary ferret, you should be prepared to give her a lot of attention to keep her stimulated, because they are intelligent, endlessly curious animals.

Yes it would be good to get a second one. Although it does depend on how big the warrens are that your going to be working. If their massive then 2 ferrets wont be enough. Up to 10 holes is ok for 1 ferret. Any more than 10 and you need a second ferret. I often work warrens where i need to go with a mate cos iv not got enough ferrets! Lol!

1 rabbit will last 2 ferrets 2 days so every 2 days chuck another rabbit in the cage. This way you cant help to feed them before working them. Feeding them before working them means its less likely they will lay up (kill, eat then have a kip). If they do lay up you have to either wait for it to come out (could be hours), stick another ferret down to find it and push it off its meal (risking waiting hours for both instead of one), block all the holes up and come back tomorrow (can you be SURE of finding EVERY hole? If not, the ferret could come out and bugger off in the night), or using a locater, finding the ferret then digging down to it (locaters are dear but i stringly urge you to get one. Digging is a long, hard and tiring job, often just a foot or so but other times 10 feet etc).

Might be worth looking up the jill jab or getting her spayed aswell to avoid other health problems in the future. If possible feed raw meat. If you can't get rabbits then get chicken wings from tescos and deffinately get a friend for her. Good luck.

would the friend have to be from the same litter?thanks for your help!
