It may not be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

 

But most anglers would still consider it cheating – and against the law.

 

So when a group of Eastern European fishermen fired a shotgun into a river in the hope of landing fresh pike, the catch of the day eventually belonged to the local police force.

Surprised the Police actually turned up, trying to get the Police or EA out to poaching anglers is pretty much impossible.

 

Mind you the Shotgun may have had a galvanising effect

Surely if he was a recent immigrant / illegal then he would not have had a shotgun licence and so it would have been a fire arms offence, which isnt mentioned? It doesnt quite ring true? Or is that just me.

I once saw a salmon shot with a 12 bore as it jumped a fall, funny enough even tho it was killed outright it didnt have a pellet mark on it.

Not excuseing it tho, I saw it done by a keeper who had opened up a tributary of a bigger river, he had got salmon running again but could never catch one, so he shot one.

 

I showed a pic of an 18lb pike to a couple of poles and they just couldnt get it into their heads why I let it go. I tried to tell em that if you do kill fish take small ones (with permission) and you wont hurt the stocks but they just couldnt get it. 'Thats why you cant catch big pike in polistan cos uv killed em all' fookin block heads.

the blast of the shot hitting the water is enough, you dont have to hit the fish, just be close

i baliff a little carp pond. only about an acre and a half. Got a call one night that there were some poles poaching. Got down an the poles had gone but the net had got snagged on an old underwater valve so luckily they didnt get anything. We've since had to put up a camera but strangely enough, they've never been back. Maybe something scared them off before i got there! dun dun dunnnnnn
