help catching rats

Come on how hard could this be i bought a rat trap weathered it set it in a barn where i think rats would be .I baited it with bacon rye and bacon fat but still no rats any suggestion

Sounds daft I know but are you sure that there are rats in the barn,If there are try to eliminate any other food source,and try to make the trap blend in with the barn,try to make a run up to it,with hay or straw bales.Put some photos up as well.

couldnt catch any for 7months so put a bit of terry chocolate orange in it caught 8 in 24hours

peanut butter...............also rats are neophobic (fear of new things)..........put in a box with hole either side and place in against a wall ( as they very seldom run in the open if they can help it..... thjey are smarter than you think though...Ive been trying to sort one in an attic - 6 weeks later, I've only just managed to get takes of bait.

 

Why not find the burrows and bait them?

i must agree with stubby on this one as i always use choclate and nothing else when going for the rats i find it works all the time
