Moll. 1,770
As has been said, whippets, dogs especially can take quite a while to mature, especially mentally! It took my lad over 2yr to sort his head out, One season he would pick & chose his runs and pull up when he saw rabbits going to the fence lines, i was demented with him. Now he has mentally matured there has been no looking back, and i am over the moon with him He is only 19.5 tts. Quote Link to post
rob190364 2,594
does anyone use their whippets in woodland or is it asking for trouble? I wouldn't mind a whippet but half the places I go are in woodland, are they OK as long as they're familiar with the land etc. or is it not advisable? Quote Link to post

fresh earth 47
Wouldnt worry mate that dogs still growing looking at the last pic he should make 18" easy enough . I had a patt bitch 11" who used to mark for fun and pull anything the ferrets got out she was no bigger than a rabbit so wouldnt worry as the saying go's size aint everything. I work this wee bitch regularly in woodland she is rising 4 and never had an injury yet touch wood. She is pritty well switched on though and weves round tree's as she knows the land we run well she will also chose what fences she will go through/under sometimes this means losing a rabbit but if she went through them all she would have had her share lay up with injury. That said i wouldnt run either of my other two in some of the wood i work as tree's are sometimes as close as 3ft from the next and ones to fast for her own good and the other gets tunnel vision and tends to only see what shes chasing. Heres my old bitch any terrain she's happy i never leash her and it would be the first time she's had rabbits on a gravel pitch or car park not that i would let her run them but when she's loose in the day lite she runs what she likes. Long ear shot and tracked on writen permision. Quote Link to post
