lampinglurcher 36
a chocolate lab working! how is he compared to other labs? ive only ever seen one other choccy lab working. great looking dog mate :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
barraboy 28
cheers, he is ok no trial dog but a decent enough type., his failings are pretty much down to me interestingly a couple of weeks back there was an article in ST about a retriever panel A judge who is running two chocolates in trials, cant remember where but down south somewhere*, and ive heard of a few more being put into trials. then another choc turned up on the front cover of Sporting Shooter. ive also seen photos of a few working chocs on the Nobs site. i think the more triallers who run them the more you'll see especially if a few dogs get made up to FTCH and their genes enter gene pool. tbh the wife picked them, ive got another but he developed hip dysplasia, he is only three, and the vet advised there is no way he can work for 5-6 hours in the field [on our walked up rough shoot] so he is a pet  then a golden retriever beats the labs to the prize in the national retriever championship ....shocking. * the midlands, Shooting Times 21/12/06 Edited January 7, 2007 by barraboy Quote Link to post

barraboy 28
hi thurso must admit i was shocked when i read it, first time in over 25 years too. it was an interesting issue that one [gun dog wise] the guy trialling the chocs, they were very nice looking dogs, and then a goldie winning the championship, then next week i was reading about a shoot where the majority of dogs are flatcoats. i admire people for keeping these breeds in the field, saw a woman working curly coated retrievers at coniston. ours is really spaniel shoot, being walked up an everything, ive toyed with getting a clumber but will probably end up with either a springer or a cocker but thats a few years away yet. Dawn B 212
Thanks Barraboy, can I ask what breeding he is? He's not the usual light type, I like him. Dawn. Quote Link to post
barraboy 28
he is an unregistered lab, the bitch was a choc [belonged to a friend of a friend] she saw limited work but from what i was told she was a nice steady bitch. the dog was a strong powerful black dog from perthshire, unregistered, but a solid worker. so a pretty undistinguished line. we were given a rough and ready ped but there are few prefixes on it and no kennel names [drakeshead etc] that i recognise. a few more pics: with his brother [the one on the left, he has hip dysplasia (?? spelling)]: right poser: waiting: another posing lad and finally with my mates bitch who is also from perthshire and similar breeding to the sire of my dog. gone a bit overboard and had a photographic frenzy Edited January 15, 2007 by barraboy Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
He's a cracking dog, shame about his brother, but with no hip scoring etc.. its always an increased worry it will occur. Nice black bitch too, lovely to see well made Labs doing a job, dogs a credit to you. Dawn. Quote Link to post
