Recommended Posts

if you go out running on a road for week then run on treat mill you know the differnce you can walk your dog on as many fields as you want but grass gives way under foot and easyer for the dog but on the road dog as use all its musles in its toes to push off the road witch means dogs feed will be in better shape

people all have their own views on road walking,

ive found its good for keeping them ticking over when its impossible to run them,

keeps the claws down when done regular,

with young dogs it can be good on a busy main road to get them focusing their attention on your voice,

in stead of everything going on around them.

road walking the dog bores the shit out of me to be honest, long walk with f**k all to look at other than passing traffic, id rather do few miles on the mountain bike with the dog on the lead

and crobin ............... :clapper: funny that mate

yeah its boring mate,i run mine in front of truck, after walk,if lamping regular then no need to trot it so much.

Road work conditions the dog,a steady walking pace over a number of miles,it toughens tendons in the feet and legs and tones muscle,it gets the dogs fit enough to withstand the rigours of the field.Running them behind a vehicle, although an easy option, can do more harm than good, over exerting the same tendons and muscles.

what a lot o shite road work is .......... the only benefit is it keeps the dogs nails down . the ground up here has bin hard for weeks so the only thing to do is road work i am doing plenty o miles of walking and the dogs are packing on the pounds , so i am going to have to cut the amount i feed . free running / working is only way to keep them right.

if wee keep getting winters like this it,s pointless keeping running dogs  wee just getting them in tip top condition and the frost sets in . by the time it thaws again and you get them right fit again the season is over :wallbash:
