Cree R2 300 lumens lamping gear - any good?

I'm considering one of these, a kit that includes: torch/flashlight, charger, batteries, scope mount, pressure switch. I've seen them advertised on ebay and I thought I'd ask: does anyone use one, and are they any good? If anyone answers "yes" and "yes" I'd be interested to know which supplier you used on ebay (I note several suppliers post goods from China or or elsewhere in Asia). What scope mount will I need for a 1" tube? Many thanks if you can steer me in the right direction.

Yes I've got 3 myself mate.

A red LED one, a White LED one and now a IR one.

Used as Tony says with a Velcro mount there brilliant.

The red LEDs I find the best and the IR LED.

The White light is really powerful and I find it's like aliens landing.

Too bright for bunnies or rats.

Better used with a home made red filter fitted which is good.

Thanks guys. I'll look out for the velcro strap for mounting the unit on the scope. I don't understand the reference to White and Red LEDs (zini). Are these like sealed beam units for cars? Can you recommend a particular supplier - there are loads to choose from on ebay? I had a Clulite with a big battery, but I will go for one of these much lighter Surefire units now. Thanks again.

This is the guy, I got mine from

Took a week from HK but worth it.

I got a charger and 6 spare batteries from this guy,

And after it broke I ordered another one from him (it broke because my wife threw it at me!)

I am tempted to purchase a RED LED unit for it, but until I do I use these

I'd rather be treat like a friend Si :gunsmilie:

But on the other hand; I'm finding out that most families are not like mine  wich is really a good thing

So as long as your like most and nothing at all like mine (talking Parents, brothers and sisters here, not wife and kids) then I'll be deeply honoured :notworthy:

I'll explain more when we see each other again

Take care.

What kind of time do you get with the batts on these torches and would it pay to get some more rechargables.Do they run the batts down quick?

Yes it does pay to get a few rechargables. I got 6 when I purchased my charger (less than about 6£ all in)

The time seems to be longer when using them continuosly for some reason.

And the batteries really don't like the cold (talking very cold minus temps here, but then again most batts don't like the cold)

I generally find when its very cold I may use two pairs in 3 or 4 hours. But as the ambient temps rise they last a whole hell of a lot longer  and several hours of lamping can be had with a single set.

You will notice when they need changing as the brightness takes a sudden, noticable drop. I carry my spares close to my skin on an inside pocket usually.
