jf1970 328
i wouldnt slip a dog if you paid me my dog workes lose That's a nice looking dog you've got. I'm keeping mine on lead and she watches her mum work. I will only be ferreting so not into the lamp but plenty of grown dogs are being injured and they know what they are doing. I think it would be better to give it some easy experience and give it time to mature. You're going to have the pup a long time so there's no rush. Best of luck whater you decide. that dog was started at 3 and a half months old does he look bad in any way hi malc1, when you say you STARTED your dog at 3 1/2 mths, started her doing what? lamping, ferreting? i started him lamping at 3 1/2 mths had his first rabbit about a week later ok cheers, i'm not knocking it mate, each to their own and all that, do you start all your dogs at around that age or is this your 1st? cheers......john Quote Link to post

DEERMAN 1,020
Does someone want to put up some photos of 12 week old pups, cos i might be wrong but when i think of a 12 week old pup i'm thinking of the age where they are still acting like babies and running into chair legs etc. youve been out with 3/4 dogs who started that age.....did they look f****d to you? tb25 4,627
im gutted.the conditions are perfect for a night on the lamp where i am and all i have is a 3 month old pup. so i took her out for a walk and took the lamp with me so i could have a look around and get the pup used to the beam etc and f##k me theres rabbits every where. would i be in the wrong by letting her off the lead to have a snout about and see if she would run one? she pulls on the lead when she sees them. im so tempted BUT unsure if i should or not, what would you advise? come on mate theres no rush is there stick to training and that Quote Link to post

DogMagic 461
at what age should i let her have a few short easy runs? will she not get bored and lose interest if i keep her on the lead? i ask this as she is my first pup and dont want to ruin her. ive only ever had older dogs that was working when i took them on And how do you know if its going to be a short easy run? Do you make the rabbit promise it wont run to hard before you slip the pup? Enter her right mate and you will have a dog you can be proud of for years to come. Do it wrong and you will f**k her up for life and then she will be passed from piller to post for life. If you want her to get some experience take her ferreting. When a rabbit hits the net let go of her coller and whisper "go on girl". She will probably play about, lunge forward then jump back etc etc. Make sure you are ready for this and get to the rabbit quick enough to avoid it slipping the net. Then no matter how good or bad she did..............PRAISE HER!! Dont let her have a run at all untill she has developed mentally and physically enough to be able to handle it. 2 Quote Link to post
