malc1 544
There is a world of difference between taking a pup along to exercise its mind, investigating all thats new, growing in confidence with each new experience and learning to interact with its peers, than taking it out hunting before it is physically and mentally capable.IMO an owner that would do this is probably trying to make up for something lacking in their own physique or personality. if i wanted an extension on my knob id have a bullx no offence lads 1 Quote Link to post

jedandlevo 8
im gutted.the conditions are perfect for a night on the lamp where i am and all i have is a 3 month old pup. so i took her out for a walk and took the lamp with me so i could have a look around and get the pup used to the beam etc and f##k me theres rabbits every where. would i be in the wrong by letting her off the lead to have a snout about and see if she would run one? she pulls on the lead when she sees them. im so tempted BUT unsure if i should or not, what would you advise? i first ran my dog on a young rabbit when it was 4 1/2 month old he caught it then done 1 and kept doin this for about 6 month it took me ages to get the dog right again and would deffo not reccomend it untill about 8 month at the earliest point to run it on quarry the dog will never get tired on retriving a siple lure or toy for me the most imortant thing for a working dog is to make sure the dog dose its job properly i.e chasing and retriving if caught obidients is 2nd to none the pup is still growing and learning it will chase any thing that move when its older dont worry about that all it take is a rong turn or a fall to ruin your dog is 1 run imo not worth the risk when all you have to do is get the dog doin what you want fron it and be patient for the running quarry part of the dogs life it will come quicker than you think atb jedandlevo Quote Link to post
pikey1989 36
i wouldnt slip a dog if you paid me my dog workes lose That's a nice looking dog you've got. I'm keeping mine on lead and she watches her mum work. I will only be ferreting so not into the lamp but plenty of grown dogs are being injured and they know what they are doing. I think it would be better to give it some easy experience and give it time to mature. You're going to have the pup a long time so there's no rush. Best of luck whater you decide. that dog was started at 3 and a half months old does he look bad in any way hi malc1, when you say you STARTED your dog at 3 1/2 mths, started her doing what? lamping, ferreting? i started him lamping at 3 1/2 mths had his first rabbit about a week later full of shit your a first class narrow minded prick sound. thinkin a 14 week lurcher can catch a rabbit on the lamp give ya fcukin head a shake ya tit. no wonder theirs so many shit dogs about people like you offering ya advice too people thats just startin out. 14 week old puppys do not catch rabbit on the lamp. 100% if they dont go out,who said 14 weeks anyway 14 weeks = 3 and a half month Quote Link to post

bunnys 1,228
getting a puppy out early socialising ,a nd learning manners stock breaking etc his a must in my book. just go steady whats all this with anoyher dog ,one man one dog bring the dog on slowly allow it to run when physically and mentally ready never known another dog neededto chase, train the dog not to chase only when asked . a lurcher correctly trained socialised and this his on going daily all the dogs life . his the best hunting dog on this planet , and i have a sneaky feeling one or two others aswell. all the best bunnys Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
just wait till next season....simples! whats the rush? ive got a pup here, almost 6months old and wont be seeing sod all on the lamp for a good while, he goes out with the other dogs in the daytime for a mooch/walk but thats about it. let it be a puppy isntead of asking too much of a dog that aint even got a proper set of teeth! i know for a fact that my pup would catch the semi tame squirrels in the park but there aint no way he gonna get the chance, 1 nasty bite and he be put off for life! and as for some tit starting his dogs on he lamp at 3months, 1 word........prat! 1 Quote Link to post
