Taking deer pre ban

I've ran and used most types of running dogs over the years, both purebreds and crosses, to catch all sorts of quarry, especially edible stuff, and have my own preferences. Just interested as to what types you guys would choose, and why? Not looking for what you think is the best for specialsed tasks, just personal preferences.

Iv seen a few X's used on deer of all sizes the best singlehanded deer dog i ever see was a Saluki bred type stood 27'' dog was a machine....

Thanks, just interested to hear what peoples prefered types are/were. Some people are just too paranoid for their own mental wellbeing ( dotty! ).
