LACS: Cult of the Damned

Recommended Posts

A bit of sleep disorder kicked in, and as a consequence I found some new stuff of amusement on LACS. It turns out former LACS Public Relations director Miles Cooper has had a change of opinion on fox hunting. As he noted in an interview last year:

"I think 'cult' is a very accurate description [of LACS] ... The anti-hunt movement was never very big, it was based on a small core group of animal rights people — many of whom never understood what they were doing, or why they were there. I became concerned that we were shoehorning evidence to suit our own political agenda and I think we were misleading people ... There were a lot of people, particularly in the memberships of these organisations [LACS and IFAW], who rely solely on PR departments to tell them what hunting is without actually going out, seeing it and talking to people. Inevitably, there is a massive gap in terms of real understanding — of course you can mount the most fantastic, well-organised, glossy campaign on the basis of ignorance and I think that's basically what we did. We were not entirely honest with people and weren't giving them the whole picture."

I have put up some other fun bits and links (complete with video from the BBC) here for those interesting this kind of stuff >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2007/...unting-act.html

Nice to see the old Ex. Dir and Preident bitch-slapping the LACS in public with a little truth.

I have been having a bit of fun with Mike Hobday the current nincompoop who is PR director of LACS and, I can assure you, does not know his ass from a can of soup. He is very kind to tell us all, however, that he lives in Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, is studying part-time for an MBA at the University of Hertfordshire., lives locally in London Colney with his wife Jane, children Jonathan, Ellesha and Carli and Dan the cat. :D

Excellent! Just what we need -- being lectured about conservation and wildlife values from someone who has three children and who seems unaware that most environmental destruction on earth is due to overpopulation.

And then, to top it all of, Hobday tells us has a cat. As fox biologist David MacDonald has noted, there is very little moral distinction between fox hunting and eating fish or owning a cat. MacDonald notes that "people's gastronomic enjoyment outweighs their concern for the consequences of harvesting billions of fish annually, as their enjoyment of their cat's companionship outweighs regret at the deaths of millions of hedgerow birds annually."

So you see, there is a lot of fun stuff out there if you track it down a bit. I trust that those of you who know how to store picture of anti's etc. will do that job.
