jf1970 328
i posted a topic earlier about dog insurance for running dogs as i have an 8mth old pup that i have started, but was just wondering are these dogs alot tougher than they are sometimes given credit for, now i know accidents can and will happen in the field to any dog regardless of breeding, but do this type/s have more sprains, breaks, cuts ect than most, be interesting to see your thoughts/experience on this, sensible comments please, and no bitchin cheers......john Quote Link to post

Also seen em kill rats as quick or quicker than most terriers and tackle practically anything that moves! I honestly think that most people who say whippets are fragile, weak or not game or need a terrier or whatever crossed into it have never even seen a good whippet at work. Properly bred, sensibly entered whippets will outwork most lurchers at the majority of tasks that the most lurchers are put to. I've kept running dogs of most types for 35 years, and have owned and seen many whippets as game and tough as any lurcher. 1 Quote Link to post

wuyang 513
Had no probs with mine other than getting a gorse thorn in his eye which had to be operated on, tough little dog had a few sprains, but nothing too bad. No more or less injury prone than my lurchers, just didn't like standing still in cold wet weather..but fine if moving. Quote Link to post
jf1970 328
thanks lads, so by what you are saying, the WHIPPET / WHIPPETX is no more injury prone than any other breed? cheers......john Quote Link to post
stones 23
Think it depends on how the whippet's bred (racing or working lines)found the racing types to be smaller and less able to handle rough ground whereas the working types tend to be a little bit taller and heavier with better feet...take mine the beach regular for a run in the salt water...does their feet the world of good ATB Quote Link to post
