Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Out first light on Friday with no real expectations of a shot due to the weather, absolutely swilling down. Decided on a walk around a quarry I have which would be the most escluded place for a deer to lie up on this farm .Checked out the surrounding area with the bino's and saw nothing so a slow walk into the quarry mouth was in order .A rabbit bolted at my feet and around the corner and must have disturbed some deer as I heard the clicking of hocks before I saw them.Peered around the first hedge and saw the biggest roe buck I'd ever seen ,stood staring straight at me .I knew he wouldnt be alone so backed off when he finally averted his gaze .Decide to try a stalk around and over the top to see if any does were present .Got to where I wanted to be and looked over cautiously .In the tree area of the quarry were 4 does but no buck ,then I saw him ,still staring at the spot I was in !.Dropped the tripod legs and put the cross hairs on the furthest ,oldest does and down she went .Just time for a second shot as they bunched together ,joined by the buck ,christ what a beauty .Another doe went down.No camera so hence the photo back at the lockup ..Dragged them back to the truck after the grallock to be met by the landowner with a stern look on her face.Shit what have I done now! .Panic over as she wanted me to shoot as many hares as possible tonght because the pikeys had visited the night before with longdogs and ran amok, killing 3 hares and leaving them ,mangled where they died .She had gone out to them [brave old bird ]and received the usual abuse .Her thoughts were -no hares ,no longdogs .Fine by me as there are loads about and I knew whatever I did would only be a token gesture .It was a moon light night with drizzle ,so no great expectations .The .22 was dusted off and a sweeping walk around the boundary in order .No need to go into every shot ,but I managed 7 for the game dealer .What was a wet day and moonlight night turned into a good do . Guest Frank
Thats a full days shooting, well done sir, you did well. Pity about the hares not being coursed with permission and the law in your country stinks, when it comes to this, but what can you do. Them hares look very tatsy indeed. Frank. Quote Link to post
