matt32 44
pre ban if youre dog was 18,19 months old and had had 30 or so roe in his first season would you consider him ready for fallow ? or would it have been better to let him have a couple of seasons learning his trade on small deer before progressing i know all dogs are different just wondered how people did it pre ban ,also would you consider the running ability, agility to be better than roe in general and did they put up more of a fight than roe when caught atb matt Quote Link to post

matt32 44
was it possible to put off a dog by entering him too soon to larger deer? Quote Link to post
Guest Defender Poacher
As soon as a dog takes roe it should take yearling and doe fallow, well before 18 month. Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
Well i would of doubled him up with a good expercented dog for a few times to see how he went and take it from there, But to be honest its hard for us on here to say much as your the one that knows his capabilities on the roe is he an arse holder, Neck holder, Does he trip them whats his way style and he must be comfortable taking roe with having 30+ in his first season at 18 month old.. All i say is theres no rush with such a young dogs thats showing good promise on the bigger ediable quarry IMHO Quote Link to post
matt32 44
mainly grabs the back leg but has caught by the neck all depends on situation. Quote Link to post

Guest combat
you need to put him with a good front end dog to learn his trade, back end dogs if hanging on a big fallow ie stag or big doe take some stickby being kicked. 1 Quote Link to post
taffyboi 19
Don't start him off in the rut mate he won't take much of 1 of those big boys with big head gear, roe are an easy target fallow take sum stopping. Espeashaly be for the rut when they are in prime after wards the stags are intrested in nuthing more than fighting and sex and dont realy eat much. What I seen be for the ban best of luck to you taffyboi Quote Link to post
