leegreen 2,221
Earlier on (2.15ish)my Whippet/Greyhound sliced her back leg (as they do)and it was bleeding quite bad. The cut is because of it position not really good for stapling. I left it until about 4.45 and the swelling had stopped the bleeding. Now I know if this had been stitched it would probably heal a bit quicker and certainly if I would of taken it to the vets they 100% would of kept her for the evening and given me a bill for approximately £150-£250 inclusive of the treatment, anesthetic, drugs and al the rest of the bits they like to add. Now what I am trying to get at is if you use your common sense and good judgement you needn't visit the vets as often as they would like you to. I do not and never have had insurance for my dogs. My dogs are in good order and god forbid if they were ever to get some thing terminal which is out of my hands like cancer or the like, they would kindly be PTS. If this thread is about running dogs then my best advise is to know your land you are running and get some basic veterinarian knowledge it will save you a packet. P.S. if you are new to dogs then the vets is probably your best bet, unless you have a knowledgable and immediately contactable friend like me. Good luck. Quote Link to post
Strong Stuff 2,171
Just insured my dog with Tesco, £12 a month, did this simply because I'm skint and didn't want the only option in case of emergency to be to have him pts because I couldn't afford treatment. Had my fair share of bills the last couple of years, nearly 3 grand after a Stafford ate a stupid f**k.ing so called biodegradeable indestructable dog toy, and then just over a grand this year after the lurcher collapsed and near died one night, luckily I had the dough at the time, I haven't any more so without insurance it would be almost certainly have to be the cheapest option .............
