Hi i was advised to try this section of the forum, dose anyone out here use the Whippet x Manchester terrier cross, or have thy ever had one or know sombody who has, it seems to be a verry rare cross t

you can see from the vid it wasnt very long as the motor overtook the dogs,, done it myself with my dogs,,, they cant keep that speed for long,,,,, and of course very few car speedomitors are correct,

You're missing my point if anything....what does it add to the whippet? slows it down...anything else?

don't really see what this cross would do that a pure whippet wouldn't do to be honest......wouldn't it just be like a slower whippet?

Well you can say this about all lurchers really , I wanted to breed a good worker which didn`t look like your average lurcher to the public.

not really as other dogs that are crossed with greyhounds or whippets add something to the mix, what does a Manchester terrier add to the mix that the whippet doesn't have? not being argumentative, I'm just wondering.

if you really want to see what a kc Manchester Terrier has to offer apart from its black & tan colour, try youtube : Manchester Terrier Agility . or obedience .

Try this link below, but dont forget these are kc dog no whippet or lucher blood in these little dogs.

So they can jump 18 inch hurdles? a whippet could jump a 6ft hurdle....

I think your missing the point this is not a lurcher or whippet but a very smart 16" kc dog .

I have owned 1, whippet and 1, whippet x greyhound over the years.

The whippet was fast but a bit of a whiner and short winded really, the whippet x greyhound was a real boiler , super fast but god he was strong a nightmare on the lead, puller. never again stick with lurcher types.

Yes it wont be as fast as todays racing whippets but doe`s it really need to be? no

you asked what can a manchester terrier offer to a lurcher.

Lets look at the long past years.

why did dog breeders of years long now past, cross whippets to terriers or in this case The Old English Black & Tan : fell terrier x whippets? for Agility , Good bone, Good feet, and stamina, or just to add speed to a working terrier, and make the manchester terrier + Both I would say.

if we tryed looking back to the early whippets and asked our self whats really in this dogs make up. DNA ?

Then look back at the manchester terrier and ask the same thing about its DNA ?

Now we can see why the kennel club call them the manchester terrier there was so many being bred around manchester. Its truely the ideal base for a good obedient working lurcher!
