graham4877 1,181
In deep snow even a collie can kill more hares than you can carry, this means that most of the near-useless, heavy, pot-lickers pictured on these forums which can never, ever catch a good daytime winter hare single handed (or even a lamped hare in many cases) can kill hares in the snow. It's not sport, most will have done it once, but once should be enough. The hare is a magnificent sporting animal and it takes a good dog to catch a daytime winter hare single-handed, but in the snow almost any dog can kill a hare. Coursing is a sport, if you just want to kill hares then snare them or get a rifle and go out and butcher as many as you like but don't pretend it's sporting or an achievement or that it's interesting or that it shows what a great hunter you are. There's a lot on here who have no idea of sport and no respect for their quarry- they are the same people who run little leverets and pregnant and milky does in the summer. One thing you can guarantee is that these losers have never owned and will never own a decent single-handed coursing dog. These people just seem to think that killing things is fun and to my mind would be better off getting a job in an abattoir rather than walking out with a long-dog. well me dogs 16mth old whetton grey kills hares for fun wouldnt even slip me dog in the snow to easy to cath? as a fecking pug could cacth em how do ya know there too easy to catch in snow mate if ya never done it :whistling:looks like ya must have tryed to know this ,ah never mind ya give it away Because other dog men on here have said......lol Quote Link to post
hickymick 37
Heard recently of some intrepid hunters taking hare in this deep snow, apart from being illegal surely its un ethical there would be an argument to say that the hares caught would not have survived the winter anyway but surely on this 12" thick powdery snow even a strong hare is limited severly!! i dont understand the way some people think and to me it seems the lurcher world is full of this mentality. Why anyone would run a dog in these condition,s and risk a bad injury boggles the mind. how long do u expect your dog to live, lamping, coursing, bushing rabbits, running in the park, all can cause fatal injurys to dogs, left in house they live forever,nd dont get vet bills, not saying your a house mate,[bANNED TEXT] can u do with worry nothing thats my point.better to burn out than fade away. Why ruin a good dog.By running it in 14" of snow.A Few week,s in the kennel,s will do them no harm.Or i could take them out to break a leg with easy kit. When they have nothing to prove.Get a grip man.atb. Catcher. history was written by the english,,,lol Quote Link to post
