millsy44 72
Just bought myself a 2nd hand super10 as a project, stock was worn and looking a bit sorry for itself, the gun is now stripped and the stock has been sanded, ive watched a few vids on youtube and im confident i can restore this gun to glory!! lol first i gave the gun a steam bath and a clean with a non chemical foam, this removed the old worn in grease and oil, let the gun dry and spent an hour sanding, ive bought some wood stain colour (deep russet) and also bought a tin of clear gloss varnish for finishing. Im planning on 8 coates of wood stain after each i will wire wool snad (gently) before applying the next coat, leaving 6 hours after each coat, then im going to clear varnish with 6 coates. Am i doing anything wrong guys or does this sound roughly the right way to go about restoring my stock??? Ive attached some photos and i will keep posting photos to show you my progress, cheers. Top photos are after sanding, bottom are before i sanded Edited December 6, 2010 by millsy44 Quote Link to post

Sweeney-Todd 208
It says water based :s is this a problem?? lol Hiya millsy. No not at all mate, if your using varnish to finnish with. With the Solvent based stain, when its DRY, you can apply stock conditioning oil, a few coats and it looks well, no shine either mate. Easy to maintain too buddy. ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post

Sweeney-Todd 208
WAIIIIT......If your using the water based stain....dampen the wood evenly with a damp lint free cloth first Millsey......get a more even coat, and the wood will accept the stain easier mate. Bill. Quote Link to post

Dont worry to much mate, it will dry differently. Try some on a scrap piece of wood, let it dry, and then varnish it, will give you some idea before you commit to varnishing the stock mate. Bill.
