darrell jnr 16
Hi all ,have just got in from a dig which very nearly went badly wrong for me older bitch, have lost two chickens last night so thought i,d best get out back of me to have a look about for the marauder!my back garden backs onto farm land in the middle of the feilds is a big wide strip of marshland ,woods etc, theres quite a few earths in there too (very handy)we had a good 6 inches or so of snow in the night so went and checked all the usual places ,all empty or holding the other ,s..after a time of looking i cme across a new spot i,d not noticed before, well kicked out ,both dogs marking strongly,so collared up the older bitch, netted the one holer away she goes, now this place looked nothing of a spot, but we all know how deceiving these types of places can be eh,well to cut a long story short ,the best mark i could get was 12ft,ffs thought i,so had a cuppa, ciggie etc, gave the top of the ground a good thumping with the spade to see if she,d move and move she did!? 9ft better !so i gets cracking ,all the while there,s no sound, but not unusual as this bitch uaually takes hold when she can, anyway it took me a fair while to get to her, when i broke through ,she,s killed her fox,she had amouth full of fur,in a very tight stop end, almost lifeless ,another five mins or so would of killed her ,got her out cleaned her up,warmed her etc...she ok now though, surprisingly not much damage.so all in all good turn out to what could of been a bad situation....good hunting lads/lasses...darrell. Rabbit Hunter 6,613
Glad to hear the bitch OK, had a dog die to ground two seasons ago the same type of thing, mouth full of fur and wedged in tight, I'd imagine both contributed to the dog dying. Quote Link to post
